The Vice President Consultant Relations is a highly visible role responsible for developing and managing relationships with Optum's national consultant firm selling partners, such as Mercer, Willis Towers Watson, and Aon. This individual is responsible for developing relationships with targeted key leaders at all levels across the country for assigned firm(s), serving as the main point of contact between Optum employer solutions and those national firm relationships.  The VP Consultant Relations will work closely with teams of business development and client management leaders to develop and expand local and regional broker and consultant relationships.


The VP Consultant Relations will support the growth of the organization by driving qualified leads to the business development team and by influencing new product development. The position reports to the Senior Vice President Business Development.

 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute on firm specific education and engagement plans to drive awareness and preference for Optum solutions in order to build pipeline and enhance close ratios for new business
  • Develop deep understanding of assigned firm(s) unique strategies and go-to-market approaches and business needs
  • Identify potential strategic alliances and distribution partnership opportunities with the broker and consultant community
  • Identify key industry trends and emerging customer requirements and drive this information deep into the business development and product development teams to help the company remain ahead of competition and relevant to customers.
  • Collect market feedback on our offerings and leverage that to develop plans to improve our offerings for employers and members
  • Plan and lead regular meetings with Optum key industry thought leaders and key national and regional consultants leaders
  • Collaboratively interface with sales and account executives across the enterprise to engage with and deepen relationships with local brokers and consultants
  • Continuously engage with internal functional areas such as product, operations, finance, marketing, to develop and maintain deep knowledge of Optum products and capabilities and coordinated message and approach to interface with the broker and consultant community
  • Partner with brokers and consultants to identify emerging opportunities, influence RFP design, and drive qualified leads to business development team
  • Partner with business development and marketing and to develop and deliver key messages to the broker and consultant community
  • Support broker/consultant strategy as needed on new business opportunities
  • Represent Optum at key broker and consultant industry events
