The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations will define, implement, and continuously improve operational core competencies and processes with a focus on leveraging data, technology and automation to deliver operational success and customer satisfaction through the implementation of technology and metrics to ensure daily operations meet all customer requirements in a predictable and repeatable manner.  In addition to developing an industry leading operating model for Ambulatory lead the vision and execution of an evolving delivery model transforming and disrupting the Ambulatory market in the US.

 

The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations will establish and maintain an effective management support organization with an emphasis on the cost effectiveness and quality of services provided.  S/he will identify services that are aligned with the business strategy and develop plans to expand operations. The successful candidate will have knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources. S/he has excellent business knowledge of the healthcare industry and of current healthcare trends.  S/he possesses strong leadership, business development, negotiation and decision-making skills.

 

Areas of Focus:

  • Advances the OAS technological capabilities to ensure efficient operations including physician practice management billing, patient access services including patient registration and scheduling services, coding, other telephonic care coordination services, managed care administration, clinical data, and financial data management systems
  • Maintains a system of quality indicators and encourages continuous quality improvement and corrective action regarding departmental operations; reduce the total cost of existing services through spreading overhead and economies of scale
  • Assures compliance with all regulatory agencies
  • Operationalizes tracking and monitoring systems to effectively oversee financial performance; initiates corrective action as needed to ensure positive financial performance

Operational Review/Process Improvement - The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations will need to review and assess the current Operations infrastructure, processes and workflows in order to continue the organization's recent progress toward enhanced accountability and consistency, creating an environment that drives "automation." He/she will develop initiatives to increase operational rigor, adopt industry best practices, and improve standardization across the physician clients and operating centers.  He/she will design and implement systems moving the Ambulatory revenue cycle processes from a fragmented and siloed toward a leaner, methodical, and more seamless workflows with the objective of promoting greater operational efficiencies.  He/she will review the current systems, looking across the system and the physicians groups establishing clearer guidelines for accountability and excellence. This extends from front end preregistration to service delivery and revenue realization.

 

Data Driven Metrics Used to Optimize Financial Performance - The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations will be charged with refining the set of performance metrics. Working with the clients and our internal teams, this new leader will continue to improve the strong performance demonstrated by Ambulatory Services for Optum360 in the following areas:

  • Denials Management
  • Billing
  • Quality and Performance Monitoring
  • Revenue Cycle Communication among all departments including the physician groups
  • Preregistration
  • Insurance Verification
  • Automation
  • Reporting
  • Contact Center

Team Review and Development - It  will be the responsibility of the Vice President of Ambulatory Operations to assess the level of the talent pool and determine best skill fit for legacy employees, as well as to determine whether new hiring would benefit the organization. The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations will have the opportunity to build out and recruit talent as needed to elevate the suite of talent.

 

Liaison - The successful candidate will have the energy, persistence, and sense of ownership to manage the Ambulatory revenue cycle processes from end-to-end.  He/she will be the key liaison to implement revenue cycle optimization, processes and workflows, working with stakeholders throughout Optum and the client base, including Information Technology, Client Operations, Accounting/Finance and physician leaders as well as the various stakeholders and product owners across Optum 360.  This new leader will promote collaboration and communication among all hospital employees and physician groups.  In addition, he/she will ensure that the revenue cycle process is generating its greatest value to grow and sustain the organization.

 

Further, this person will be able to work with and present in customer facing events regularly.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strategic vision, planning and execution to enhance profitability, productivity and efficiency throughout the company's ambulatory operations
  • Ensure customer requirements are consistently understood and met, with a priority on customer on ­time delivery and product quality
  • Develop a go to market scalable operating and delivery model that differentiates us in the market place as the leader of Ambulatory revenue cycle delivery and outcomes
  • Maintain predictable consistency in all elements of operational performance
  • Interact regularly with executive team and individual department heads to ensure that company's operational priorities are aligned with total company direction
  • Continually investigate and introduce process improvement measures
  • Promote collaboration with all other functional areas of the organization
  • Ensure critical participation in proposal development and oversees strategies or tactics to drive cost and product performance goals
  • Understand and apply disciplined root­ cause analysis and conduct detailed monthly operations reviews that are dependent on key metrics to ensure fast, steady progress in operations performance and improvements
  • Drive quality and efficiency into all processes and activities
  • Develop and manage annual departmental budgets
  • Manage all operational departments to ensure effective and metric ­driven performance under established processes
  • Manage subordinate management team including optimizing core competencies and skill sets
  • Perform other duties as assigned
The new Vice President of Ambulatory Operations will be:
