What You'll Do

The User Experience Architect role is mission critical to helping create a user experience strategy and structure for our next generation SD WAN SaaS products. Simply stated, our goal is to win this market and own it long-term and see User Experience as the critical piece of us achieving that goal. A high-quality user experience based in simplification of networking motions and concepts will be the market differentiation for us.

The successful candidate will have the ability to define a vision and strategy for the future of the user experience for Cisco SD WAN that inspires the organization to achieve that vision. You will document the jobs to be done across our service offering and drive a customer-centric approach to defining the priority for us to actualize those jobs in our next generation user experience. The UX Architect will be responsible for defining and influencing the overall product backlog.

Networking is literally one of the most complicated technological spaces in the world. We have 30 years of concept accumulation to streamline and you would be at the forefront of leading that charge with Distinguished Engineers, Senior Product Management Leaders, and Distinguished Technical Marketing Engineers (an SE of sorts here at Cisco). We are focused on simplification and concept abstraction/consolidation will be paramount to landing user experiences that feel and behave simply yet drive some of the largest most important networks on the planet (think governments, multi-national corporations, NGOs, higher education and militaries).

You will not have a team of direct reports, rather you will be the heart and conscious for the larger EN UX Team (upwards of 50 UX professionals). Youll bring a steady ability to champion the simplification efforts and influence massive change in the worlds largest networking company.  

 

Key responsibilities

* Work closely with a team of Product Managers, senior level engineering leaders and Designers (UI/UX) to create simplified information architectures based on networking concept consolidation and jobs to be done to stand up, operate and monitor/troubleshoot an enterprise scale wide area network.

* Deliver UX architectural documentation concept models, information architecture maps/flows, and screen level concepts to help communicate your ideas and drive towards alignment and execution in our products.

* Collaborate with Product Management to influence product strategy and roadmap to actualize your architectural vision in our SaaS products.

* Work with the Engineering team to ensure technical business needs are met while maintaining a strong focus on the user experience.

* Advocate and be the voice of Cisco's customers in the Company's product development process.

* Relentlessly drive to understand customers networking intents and always find ways to further automate and simplify.

* Distill complex problems and propose simple, elegant solutions.

* Create a signature experience for Cisco software and solutions that are aligned to the Company's brand values.

* Drive discovery track for the product (we are moving towards dual track agile).

*Use vision prototypes to influence and get buy-in from business leadership and to motivate/inspire design and non-design staff alike.

* You are not afraid to get into the weeds to gain domain knowledge and expertise in networking.

Who You Are - The ideal candidate experience

* Great leadership skills (people, strategy and execution).

* Ability to effectively communicate concepts with passion and integrity. Excellent communication skills

* Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in software product  design.

* Experienced in enterprise class software products that have a technical focus.

* Experienced in design in a multi-site global product development and delivery.

* Experience collaborating with senior executives to understand business objectives; ability to present design goals, process and vision to senior leadership.

* Independent and self-motivated set your agenda, follow your path and demonstrate progress to the organization.

* Solid design history backed by delivery and execution.

* A track record of success communicating and driving a design vision.

* Results outshine a pedigree. Degree in design related field preferred. Bonus points if you graduated from a design school (e.g. CMU, SCAD, RISD).

Technical Skills

* Expertise in defining and implementing user experience guidelines; demonstrated experience with industry/platform standards.

* Experience in conceptual development and rapid creative prototyping as well as tactical UI design and implementation. Demonstrated ability to work in Miro, Sketch, Invision, Omnigraffle etc. Be able to get your hands dirty with design deliverable creation.

* Project management experience; experience with various design methodologies and processes including Agile development.
