Willow Springs Center has an opening for an Academic Teacher for the Middle School class.

The purpose of this position is to develop and deliver educational opportunities for children who are patients at Willow Springs Center. They will be called upon to liaise with other educators, families, guardians and providers to develop an educational plan that supports the overall treatment plan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  1. Diagnoses the learning strengths and weaknesses of students on a regular basis.
  2. Selects materials and resources that support instructional goals and engage students in meaningful learning.
  3. Develops valid and reliable assessment tools for the classroom.
  4. Develops and utilizes a variety of informal and formal assessments.
  5. Assesses, compares, and contrasts the effects of various teaching strategies on individual student performance.
  6. Demonstrates awareness of clinical goals and objectives and complies with the clinical directives.
  7. Uses assessment data as a basis for standards-based instruction.
  8. Uses specific knowledge of student medical conditions and medications and their possible effects on student learning and behavior.
  9. Plans and organizes reading instruction based on ongoing assessment.
  10. Develops reading comprehension and promotion of independent reading.
  11. Supports reading through oral and written language development.
  12. Designs short and long range standards-based instructional plans.
  13. Understands the cognitive processes associated with various kinds of learning (e.g. critical and creative thinking, problem structuring, problem solving, invention, memorization and recall) and ensures attention to these learning processes so that students can master content standards.
  14. Develops and revises the patients Master Treatment Plan according to department policies and procedures.
  15. Selects instructional goals, which are worthwhile and are appropriate for the students age and developmental levels and skills and background.
  16. Develops curriculum for students that is age specific and is designed to meet educational goals.
  17. Provides effective verbal and written feedback that shape improvement in student performance on content standards.
  18. Ensures children are able to demonstrate educational growth through the achievement of measurable standards.
  19. Raises the academic performance level of a group of students, over time, to a higher level.
  20. Accurately documents and reports ongoing student achievement.
  21. Documents patient progress in the medical record according to department policies and procedures.
  22. Communicates with parents and guardians effectively in order to involve them as participants and partners in student learning.
  23. Communicates a variety of assessment results, and their implications to students, parents, guardians, professionals, administrators, and the community.
  24. Collects data on individual student achievement and be accountable for each child's learning.
  25. Utilizes technology to manage and communicate information.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelors degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association that is approved by the United States Department of Education. Masters Degree preferred. Completion of Praxis I required. Completion of Praxis II preferred.

Experience: Experience teaching emotionally handicapped and learning disabled adolescents is preferred. Three (3) years of verified full time or supervised experience in teaching the appropriate grade level.

Licensure: Must possess a valid nevada teaching license endorsed in either; Elementary Education, Secondary Education or Special Education to qualify.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements may be considered.
