Primary Responsibilities:

    ""
  • Perform accurate and compliant auditing reviews of pertinent medical records and physician services to identify and report audit outcomes and need for coding education
  • ""
  • Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations
  • ""
  • Identifies trends and denials with overall divisions and individual physician coding practices and proposes resolutions
  • ""
  • Work in EMR and Centricity Group Management to review charges and documentation sent by the Accounts Receivable team
  • ""
  • Consults with medical providers and/ or staff to clarify missing or inadequate record information and to determine appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes
  • ""
  • Understands coding trends to include NCD, LCD, AMA and CMS guidelines
  • ""
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-specialty coding and applicable modifiers
  • ""
  • Proactive general and specialty specific education for providers and other clinical, operations and revenue cycle staff regarding current and future coding and documentation guidelines, including payor specific guidelines
  • ""
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leadership to offer focused education on documentation requirements based on feedback and third party payors including denials, policy guidelines and coverage determinations
  • ""
  • Education may be in the form of; verbal, written, in-person and remote formats
  • ""
  • Create educational coding materials for physician teaching opportunities
  • ""
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with offices on resolving coding disputes/queries in a timely manner
  • ""
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills by completing assignments within time constraints and calendar schedules. Excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work independently

Required Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialists (CCS) or Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)
  • ""
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
  • ""
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
  • ""
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained.
