The IT Solution Architects overall responsibility is to define the architecture for implementation of IT Systems specific to the business challenges within Optum. This role must bring to bear a set of broad experiences and knowledge across Integration, Application and Infrastructure Architecture to support key business initiatives.
"The Solution Architect will be a technology expert and use solution building blocks to define solution concepts, estimate projects, and define architecture blueprints. In this function, the Solution Architect engages through the SDLC focusing on request/intake processes through discovery, requirements, and design phases. The individual will need to collaborate with Business stakeholders to understand their functional needs, research and evaluate new products that address the requirements, and formulate COTS and custom solutions that integrate with existing platforms. This role will need to align solutions to the IT roadmap and enterprise standards and coordinate the architecture solution delivery through the Project Management Office (PMO), Infrastructure and Ops, and Development organizations.

  • Work closely with solution engineering, development teams and vendors to ensure that a coherent and consistent approach to design, implementation and integration is achieved
  • ""
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to delivery teammates including reference implementation, design patterns and best practice guidelines
  • ""
  • Design and implement the Systems and Application environment for companys .NET based healthcare system
  • ""
  • Analyzeing the technology environment and various components involved, including Database, Network, and other Infrastructure components.
  • ""
  • Work with Business/Systems Analysts to understand the Business requirements, and create the corresponding blue print for implementing various technology components of a new system
  • ""
  • Create and manage architectural blueprints that describe the strategy, business outcomes, capabilities, services, processes, information, and data that together will realize our Payer vision, goals, and strategic objectives
  • ""
  • Work with senior business and technology leaders to develop, recommend, and execute strategic and tactical business and technology architecture roadmaps
  • ""
  • Lead and facilitate architecture assessments and reviews during business ideation, discovery, and program / project execution to ensure alignment with business goals and strategies. Identify gaps and opportunities and recommend business and technology solutions
  • ""
  • Build end-to-end solution plans that define the ideal and future state systems solution, scope of solution initiatives, solution delivery sequencing through architecture transition states, and assumptions and risks
  • ""
  • Analyze and evaluate current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies (architecture optimization, maintain PADU balance of ecosystem, modernization) and collaborating with Enterprise Architecture from other lines of business and development team architects to recommend solutions for improvement
  • ""
  • Ensure capital programs stay aligned to Enterprise strategy while leveraging existing components and capabilities across the business segment landscape
  • ""
  • Provide in-depth solution architecture support during program / platform / product solution analysis and design to ensure roadmap alignment
  • ""
  • Champion assigned application architecture through any governance gates and collaborate with quality teams to drive continuous improvement for technology solutions
  • ""
  • Increase speed to market, speed of innovation

  • Reuse existing corporate and business unit product capabilities where they fit

  • Identify and use applicable architecture patterns, structures, and standards

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field (or 4 additional years of experience beyond the required years of experienced may be substituted in lieu of a Bachelors Degree)
  • ""
  • 8+ years of experience in leading IT Product / Platform organizations with a proven track record of delivering on optimum architectural solution for Transformation, Platform Modernization, Cloud Adoption and Digital Programs
  • ""
  • 4+ years of technical experience with application integration: SOA, HL7, Web Services, RESTful, Message Queue solutions using SOAP, JSON, XML, .NET stack (ASP.NET, MVC, REST, API, SQL, .NET CORE)
  • ""
  • 3+ years of experience as a hands-on enterprise architect, solutions architect, or similar role in a large enterprise
  • ""
  • 2+ years of Health Care IT experience: ex: EHR, Practice Management, Interface Engines, HL7, CDA, or DICOM
  • ""
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation
  • ""
  • High proficiency in developing visual representations of architectural solutions
  • ""
  • Ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architecture alternatives
  • ""
  • Proven record of software application delivery focusing on open source commodity solutions
  • ""
  • Experience with software automation including test automation, deployment automation, database management automation, operations automation
  • ""
  • Experience delivering software to a Public and/or Private cloud utilizing IaaS and/or PaaS cloud paradigms

  • Ability to apply process, architecture and software engineering principles, methods, and tools to business challenges

  • Exceptional communication skills and the demonstrable ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization including senior technology and business leaders
