**ROLE SUMMARY**

Pfizer Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) is within the Oncology division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development in La Jolla, CA. CID is dedicated to developing new protein therapeutics to improve human life by redirecting the immune system against cancer. CID researchers apply the latest scientific knowledge and novel approaches to discover truly innovative Immuno-Oncology therapeutics. We are seeking to hire a Senior Scientist for the Cytokine Biology CID group.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Design and execution of mechanism of action (MOA), PD and other biomarker studies, as well as combination studies for CID's preclinical-stage cytokine therapeutics using in vivo murine models and ex vivo methods, such as cell sorting, multi-color flow cytometry, gene expression analysis techniques, and primary cell culture.

+ Discover and develop new therapeutic modalities for cancer immunotherapy that promote tumor immunogenicity by MOA including but not limited to immune evasion, "don't eat me signals", senescence, and tumor recognition by innate/adaptive immune cells.

+ Collaborate with protein engineering, computational biology, and clinical development group to pursue the most promising drug candidates through clinical trials

+ Participate in collaboration on novel cytokine targets and tumor immunogenicity promoting therapeutics with internal and external collaborators

+ Communication of research results to team and company

+ May supervise research associates and/or scientists depending on previous experience and performance



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Ph.D. with 1+ years of relevant scientific experience in the fields of cancer cell biology, molecular oncology, immunology and/or genetics

+ Ability to independently design, plan and execute and interpret experiments

+ Ability to manage an independent research program with minimal supervision

+ Experience with various murine tumor models that involve mouse syngeneic cell lines and human xenografts

+ Experience in CRISPR technology and lentiviral transduction

+ Expertise in standard cancer biology and immunologic techniques

+ Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, good verbal and written communication, and strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Post doctoral training in immunology or tumor biology

+ Strong track record in target identification/validation and screening approaches using small-molecule inhibitors and/or genetic manipulation (shRNA, CRISPR)

+ Expertise in flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, MSD, Nano string and cytotoxic assays, ChIP-Seq, ELISA

+ Technical expertise with immune cell-based functional assays (e.g. activation, differentiation, proliferation, and suppression assays by using, T-cells, monocyte/ macrophages, or dendritic cells)

+ Experience with human PBMC and mammalian cell culture



**PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS**



+ Standing, sitting, bending, lifting, walking in a laboratory or vivarium setting.

+ Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in a BSL-2 laboratory; additional PPE requirements when working in vivarium barrier suites.

+ Standard business office conditions; sitting, standing as appropriate
