**ROLE SUMMARY**



The Senior Scientist- Novel Delivery Technologies (NDT) is a position within the Pharmaceutical Research & Development (PhRD) department in Pfizer's Biotherapeutics Pharmaceutical Sciences organization. The incumbent will participate in the development, scale-up and transfer of parenteral formulations and manufacturing processes for novel drug delivery formulations of diverse biotherapeutic modalities including (but not limited to) nanoparticles, protein candidate molecules, vaccines, gene medicine, conjugates, and targeted modalities, from pre-clinical and Ph I clinical trials through manufacturing process performance qualification, license application and commercialization.



Incumbent must have the scientific commitment and strong desire to make impactful scientific and technical contributions within the Pharmaceutical Research & Development team and the respective project teams.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



The Senior Scientist- NDT (BTx PhRD), is a laboratory-based position for performing formulation and manufacturing process development activities for novel drug delivery formulations of diverse biotherapeutic modalities including (but not limited to) nanoparticles, protein candidate molecules, vaccines, gene medicine, conjugates, and targeted modalities, from pre-clinical through manufacturing process performance qualification, license application and commercialization. The position will involve use of innovative and modern techniques to develop and characterize dosage forms with appropriate stability profiles and develop associated manufacturing processes to meet project needs. Data generated by the incumbent will be utilized to nominate dosage forms, support clinical trial applications, scale-up and enable transfer of manufacturing processes, and to support product licensure-related activities in accordance with ICH guidance. The incumbent will author written documentation and regulatory filings associated with his/her work and will participate in technology transfer activities to manufacturing sites. The Senior Scientist-NDT, must be able to interact effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers for formulation and process optimization and overall product development. Effective communication skills are essential for interactions with laboratory scientists, project managers and colleagues from numerous functions, serving on multi-disciplinary project teams.



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ PhD with 0-3 years, Master's Degree with 3-6 years, or Bachelor's Degree with 5-8 years of industrial experience in Chemical Eng, Biomedical Eng, Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology, or equivalent.

+ Experience in process development and formulation techniques of any of complex parenteral drug products, nanomedicines, proteins, gene therapy, vaccines, oligonucleotides or other biologic modalities and polymeric or lipidic delivery systems

+ Familiarity with current approaches in advanced drug delivery, and working knowledge of particle engineering techniques using biomaterials

+ Experience with nanoparticle drug delivery systems

+ Hands-on experience in handling, characterization and formulation of proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, and other large molecule modalities

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment

+ Exceptional organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to thrive in an interdependent and idea-rich environment

+ Strong work ethic and attention to detail



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ PhD with 2+ years, MS with 4+ years, or BS with 7+ years of relevant industrial experience in Chemical Eng, Biomedical Eng, Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology, or equivalent

+ Knowledge and experiences related to process development scale-up and technology transfer to a cGMP manufacturing facility in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry

+ Strong technical knowledge of process design, process scale up and chemical/process engineering principles

+ Experience preparing batch records, lab reports, protocols and other documentation and working in chemistry, biochemistry, or process development labs or clinical manufacturing areas

+ Good mechanical skills and the ability to work with laboratory and industrial process equipment

+ Knowledge and experience with statistical design of experiments and analysis of results

+ Capable of critically analyzing, organizing and communicating data

+ Specific experience with polymeric and or lipidic drug dosage forms or nanotechnology

+ Hands-on experience with analytical equipment (particularly particle sizing, HPLC and microscopy) and lyophilization

+ Experience with CRO or CMOs

+ Familiarity with GLP/GMP requirements is a plus

+ Understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing, liposome technology, polymeric nanoparticulate technology and characterization is a plus



**NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS**



+ Some travel (5-10%), based on site of tech transfer, will be required.
