**Senior Scientist - Protein Expression and Molecular Biology**

BioMedicine Design (BMD) is seeking a highly motivated scientist to be part of the protein expression and molecular biology group supporting the Biotherapeutics portfolio of Pfizer, Inc. in La Jolla, CA. The candidate will be responsible for DNA construct generation and protein expression to support the generation of milligram to gram scale quantities of recombinant proteins. Constructs will include biotherapeutic leads, protein reagents, recombinant targets, immunogens, and phage/yeast display reagents. This position requires cutting-edge expertise in the molecular biology aspects of the design, optimization, generation, high throughput reformatting and sequence confirmation of protein expression DNA constructs. Beneficial are cutting-edge expertise in mammalian tissue culture techniques using various cell lines and cell culture technologies. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in the design of optimal processes that are consistent with team material needs for quantity and purity.



**Job Description:**



+ Responsible for the molecular-related deliverables of the La Jolla BioMedicines Design protein production group.

+ Perform and/or coordinate the generation of DNA constructs tailored for the expression of recombinant proteins.

+ Perform protein expression in mammalian transient from various shake flask scales to bioreactor systems

+ Design, assess and troubleshoot cell culture and expression protocols.

+ Deliver DNA constructs, cell culture supernatants and data analysis packages to project teams in a timely manner

+ Present results regularly at team meetings

+ Perform diligent and timely notekeeping and work process tracking



**Required Qualifications:**



+ PhD in molecular biology/biochemistry/immunology/cell biology or a related discipline, 2+ years of postdoctoral experience, OR MS with 7+ years biotechnology/pharma experience, or BS with 10+ years of biotechnology/pharma experience

+ Extensive expertise in molecular biology techniques, including primer design, optimizing PCR's, mutagenesis and subcloning techniques, and E. coli cell culture

+ Understanding of the scientific and technological principles behind state-of-the-art protein expression systems

+ Experience in protein expression using transient and/or stable mammalian cell culture systems, and strong expertise in design, execution, and troubleshooting of expression processes.

+ Good understanding of the broader biotherapeutics drug discovery process

+ Experience with data analysis and presentation software

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills



**Preferred Qualifications:**



+ Experience with Insect Cell expression systems would be highly desirable
