Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is focused on developing therapies for inherited diseases, including neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disorders. The successful candidate will be a member of the Muscle Disease and Discovery group and will lead and support project teams working to deliver effective candidate therapies for clinical testing. By supporting these early portfolio projects, this lab- based positions will be part of an interdisciplinary team with opportunity to interact with Rare Disease biologists as well as colleagues in other Pfizer disciplines, contributing to translational preclinical work to advance Pfizer's Neuromuscular Disease Programs. The position is based in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA. **ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Design and conduct experiments that advance the development of therapies.

+ Design, complete experimental studies, carry out data analyses and interpretation, record results in electronic lab notebook, and stay abreast of novel relevant findings from the literature.

+ Interface with an internal interdisciplinary team and with external collaborators from academia and industry.

+ Support in vivo/ in vitro work for projects in the Muscle Disease and Discovery portfolio.



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Ph.D. in cell/molecular biology, or a related discipline including primary authorship on relevant publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

+ Must be willing to work with live animals and cells/tissues of human origin.

+ Scientific and technical training in skeletal and cardiac muscle biology.

+ Assay development and validation skills to enable compound screening

+ Familiarity with standard molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, siRNA and plasmid transfections, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR.

+ Experience supporting a multidisciplinary project team including the ability to generate high quality data in a time-sensitive environment, to assimilate new information from multiple sources, and to effectively communicate with internal and external scientists.

+ Creativity, self-motivation and the ability to work independently including analysis and troubleshooting of experimental results and reviewing literature to formulate new approaches.



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Experience in muscle/cardiac diseases

+ Experience collaborating with industry

+ Post-doctoral experience or equivalent
