**Job Title:** Senior Process Scientist/Engineer

**Department:** Technical Services

**Position Reports to:** Drug Substance Technical Services Manager

**Job Purpose**

The Senior Process Scientist will be responsible for providing, leadership and technical guidance to the operating unit ensuring that the processes are robust, appropriately validated and run so as to maintain that validated state.

This role focuses on; development and introduction of new or best practices, leading and resolving technical issues and process investigations, coaching team members, management of team related projects and support process transfer projects including facility fits and equipment design specification.

This is an ideal development opportunity for someone who is seeking career progression and aspires to move into a Management role in the future. Someone who is keen to seek new innovate ways of operating and implement them in a commercial manufacturing facility.

The successful candidate will work within the Technical Services team to deliver integrated technical services to meet the site business objectives. The role requires the flexibility to move from one project to another quickly or to work/manage multiple smaller projects at the same time.

**Job Responsibilities:**

+ Explore and develop new strategies that will grow the business and ensure that we remain completive

+ Development of best practices within the Technical Services team

+ Lead the seamless transfer of new products from the NPI Technical Services team to sustaining Technical Services team

+ Development, implementation and /or management of process improvements (yield / robustness / cycle time / cost reduction)

+ Support major investigations, including preparation of process/product impact assessments

+ Work to implement a culture of Right-First Time through partnerships with Operations and other functions on site and provide leadership in the use of OE principles to optimise our technical and business processes

+ Act as process SME in regulatory inspections and close-out of regulatory follow-up measures

+ Identification and introduction of new technology, including process analytical technology (PAT)

+ Assist with facility fit activities for new products to determine suitability within the Drug Substance Facility

+ Coaching of team members within the current Drug Substance Technical Services Team

+ Provide technical training on process and technology areas as required

+ Develop and maintain productive links with process equipment & technology supplier and vendors.


+ Minimum of 3 years' experience in the pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical industry

+ Strong background in mammalian cell culture, protein purification or validation

+ In depth understanding of potential impact of equipment/process on biological molecules.

+ Demonstrated aptitude for technical learning and problem-solving/trouble-shooting skills

+ Ability to independently plan and perform work assignments, interpret and present data.

+ Desire to question the status quo and seek out the best way

+ Highly motivated, proactive and persistent

+ Effective communication (verbal, written)


Minimum qualification of a B.Sc/M.Sc or higher qualification in chemistry, biotechnology or a related discipline
