Provide bioinformatics support to the Viral Vaccines group and other groups in Viral Research and Development as needed.

A major goal is to design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive bioinformatics system for the RNA-influenza vaccine program. The system is to provide inventory of viruses, nucleic acids, and antibodies; interface with GISAID and other on line sequence databases to monitor the global emergence of new influenza sequences; analysis of influenza sequences and metadata to assess likelihood of antigenic difference and global spread; antigenic cartographic mapping of flu viruses; design of oligonucleotides for rapid DNA synthesis; interface with robotic synthetic biology systems; convenient interface with scientific users for sequence entry and analysis; and regular reports on flu epidemiology relevant to vaccine manufacturing that are accessible for a non-technical audience. The system will be at the core of a major effort to improve the efficacy and reliability of influenza immunization. It should be designed to transition from a system primarily used in a research and development setting to a system that will be used in a GMP manufacturing environment.

The ideal applicant will have experience in designing and implementing complex scientific bioinformatics systems, subject matter expertise in virology (particularly influenza virology) and synthetic biology, and strong ability to interface and communicate with scientific users and outside experts.

Design, implement, and maintain an influenza bioinformatics system, including a sequence analysis pipeline Provide bioinformatic support to all aspects of Viral Vaccines research and development and other components of Vaccines Research and Development as needed.
