Optum Advisory Services (OAS) is seeking a skilled Senior Manager of Data Science with extensive health care experience to lead efforts to expand and optimize analytical capabilities and insight generation within client organizations. This role will be responsible for partnering with operational, clinical, population health, risk management, and financial domain experts as well as analytical platform architects and other stakeholders to craft effective enrichments, models, and algorithms that drive insight and facilitate organizational improvement.

  • Applying knowledge of data modeling, statistics, machine learning, programming, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to more actionable insights

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (preferably in information technology, engineering, math, computer science, analytics, engineering or other related field)
  • ""
  • 7+ years of combined experience in data science, data enrichment, and advanced modeling
  • ""
  • 3+ years of experience creating insights or data enrichments in SQL, Python, Scala, Java or other similar coding language
  • ""
  • 3+ years of combined working with industry standard relational and non-relational data storage systems
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience building, mentoring, and managing high performing teams or directing the work of others
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience managing complex data projects and programs
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience creating healthcare analytics
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience managing analytics initiatives with minimal guidance
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience supporting multiple concurrent initiatives or projects
  • ""
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
  • ""

  • Advanced degrees or certifications (preferably in information technology, engineering, math, computer science, analytics, engineering or other related field)

  • Experience manipulating large data sets through statistical software (ex. R, SAS) or other methods

  • Experience working with large data pipelines that transfer and process data using Spark, Scala, Python, Apache Kafka, Pig/Hive, etc.

  • Strong understanding of applied statistics hypothesis testing, p-values, confidence intervals, regression, classification, and optimization

  • Experience building new analytical content within common reporting and business intelligence platforms (e.g. Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.)

  • Experience creating design standards for analytical content

  • Experience leveraging multiple content dissemination techniques to meet user requirements

  • Experience contributing to cross-functional efforts, with proven success in creating healthcare analytics
