Sodexo is seeking a Utility Engineer, Site Leader. This position is responsible for directing and supervising field and office activities in support of maintenance of steam, electric, refrigeration, chilled water, cooling tower, domestic / RODI water, and sewage systems in a large campus facility.  In addition, this position administers and monitors contracts with approved vendors and evaluates their work in support of the site utility systems. for a new account in the NY/NJ Metro area.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Typical duties include planning, organizing, and assigning, work through subordinate supervisors, maintaining quality and priority control, and overseeing administrative activities of the team.
  • Directs through the management team the work performed by subordinate professional staff / and or contractors by providing technical advice and direction in such activities as maintenance, operations, engineering studies, evaluations and projects (review of specifications and site plans), to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of all utility systems on site.
  • Directs and coordinates the Utility team and/or contractors engaged in various aspects of work for the maintenance and/or modification of facility utility equipment or systems.
  • Directs and coordinates the Utility team and/or contractors in the conduct of performance studies to determine the most feasible approach to maintain or optimize system operations.
  • Develops and implements a program involving the inspection, maintenance, and repair of utility equipment and systems.
  • Manages and assists with planning the work program and work procedures and develops appropriate schedules and methods in support of the various utility systems on site.
  • Provides management to the team working in the steam, electric, refrigeration, chilled water, cooling tower, domestic / RODI water, and sewage disposal teams and contractors engaged in maintenance, and supervises the performance of their work.
  • Budgets and plans for the effective utilization of available funds, personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Conducts periodic physical inspections of varied systems and plants and of buildings and structures, notes potentially or actively dangerous conditions, determines nature and extent of needed repairs, identifies and obtains personnel required to perform the work.
  • Supervises employees engaged in operating simple and/or complex steam, electrical, refrigeration, chilled water, cooling tower, domestic / RODI water, and/or sewage disposal equipment used in the operation of the facility.
  • Prepares reports regarding preventive maintenance programs and related matters.
  • Ensures maintenance of current library of shop drawings, manuals, and plans of buildings and equipment.
  • Manages the 3rd party compliance / regulatory / testing of sewage, boiler water, potable water, electric machinery, chilled water systems, cooling towers, and other plants and systems used in the operation of the facility.
  • Available 24-hour coverage for emergencies.
  • Ability to plan and organize work for the team through subordinate supervisor and review and evaluate the technical work performed by staff.
  • Ability to evaluate engineering, maintenance and construction work (for new systems being installed by capital projects that will be maintained by the team) in the field.
  • Ability to estimate costs and requirements for systems maintenance and modification (when required) and to coordinate utilization of team members engaged in monitoring the work and/or projects.
  • Knowledge of the methods used develop work programs for employees engaged in the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods used to repair and maintain mechanical equipment, and various types of buildings and structures.
  • Knowledge of techniques, tools, and procedures used to conduct inspections of varied types of mechanical equipment required in the operation of the facility.
  • Knowledge of the methods used to conduct periodic laboratory and/or engineering tests of sewage, boiler water, domestic / RODI water, electric machinery, chilled water systems, cooling towers and other plants and systems involved in the operation of the facility.
  • Knowledge of procedures, routines, checks, equipment, and supplies involved in the operation of steam, electrical, refrigeration, chilled water, cooling towers, domestic / RODI water, and/or sewage disposal systems and equipment.
  • Ability to identify and analyze the technical problems involved in the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, and in maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.
  • Ability to effectively utilize staff, funds, equipment, materials, space, and supplies.
  • Ability to supervise a diversified group of workers engaged in the operation and maintenance of steam, electric, refrigeration, chilled water, cooling tower, domestic / RODI water, and/or sewage disposal systems, and other types of maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Ability to provide assignments and instructions to staff and supervise their performance.
  • Ability to recognize, locate, and take measures needed to eliminate hazardous, potentially dangerous, and other significant conditions.
  • Ability to identify needed repairs, to determine the personnel and equipment needed to do the work, and to supervise completion of the work.
  • Ability to utilize various types of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.

 

Is this opportunity right for you? We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Ten (10) years of experience in charge of the operation and maintenance of utilities and maintenance programs of a pharmaceutical campus, institution, college, or similar multibuilding complex with a central utility plant, six (6) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar
  • Professional Engineers License or a State of NJ Operating Engineering License(s) preferred but not required.

Position Summary

This position serves as a subject matter expert for the Division relating to plant operations maintenance (POM) services.  This position is typically aligned with an Senior Vice President or Vice President and supports that geography.

Key Duties- Day to day SME for plant operations maintenance (POM) services.

- Ensures compliance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of standards and other regulatory requirements, as well as with Sodexo's templates and standards for customer service.

- Works with operations constituents in areas relating to financial management, people management, account development, and account operations.

- Supports the implementation of new unit openings, including the development and administration of training plans.

- Supports the sales process by assisting with operations and costing analyses, and by providing technical support in the development of service proposals.
