**ROLE SUMMARY**

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the evaluation of existing and novel adjuvants for vaccine programs. This will include, but not be limited to, liaising with other Pfizer therapeutic areas/areas of expertise to identify possible compounds with adjuvant-like activities, working with business development colleagues to identify possible in-licensing opportunities, and conducting own exploration of the adjuvant space. Incumbent will oversee and coordinate execution of adjuvant evaluation studies and sponsor adjuvant evaluation strategy for VRD. Provides matrix leadership and works closely on cross functional projects; lead by influence rather than direct authority. Leverages constructive cross-functional matrix relationships externally and across WRD.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**

Drive identification of compounds with adjuvant properties

o Establishes and drives relationships with adjuvant KOLs in academia, industry and government; shapes and influences field perspective on role of adjuvants in vaccines.

o Reviews literature and publicly available information for possible adjuvants of interest. May organize symposia/scientific meetings to discuss adjuvants with KOLs.

o Establishes and maintains consistent communication with cross-functional Pfizer leadership (within and outside of VRD) to identify in-house compounds with possible adjuvant-like properties.

o Drives relationship with business development colleagues to determine possible in-licensing adjuvant opportunities.

o Chairs regular meetings with leadership to review current state of adjuvant field and possible opportunities.

o Provides matrix leadership and works closely on cross functional projects; lead by influence rather than direct authority. Leverages constructive cross-functional matrix relationships externally and across WRD.

Lead adjuvant evaluation

o Sponsor cross-function and/or cross-line teams to accomplish business objectives or may chair cross-functional teams and participate in driving adjuvant evaluation strategy internally and externally.

o Collaborate and build strong partnerships with peers and cross-functional matrix partners, ensure successes and failures are identified and shared, identify training and development opportunities, and promote sharing of best practices across teams as an individual contributor.

o Identify appropriate vaccine candidate(s) for evaluation of selected adjuvants.

o Lead cross-functional teams (in vivo biology, assay leads, RPLs, leadership) to determine appropriate strategy and models for preclinical evaluation of adjuvant performance.

o Create an adjuvant evaluation strategy; act as adjuvant SME. Author internal documents, reviews and/or original publications on adjuvant properties and performance.

o Identify and manage adjuvant evaluation by relevant CROs and/or external collaborators, as appropriate.

Training and Safety

o Maintain strict compliance with departmental and site safety regulations.

o Successfully complete all assigned training.



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) in Immunology or related field and 10 years experience in related discipline.

Must possess a deep understanding of vaccine-induced immune responses and the mechanisms of adjuvant action.

The ability to work effectively within a matrix organizational structure and to effectively develop business partner relationships is critical to this role. Strong collaboration is required across VRD Leadership Team and RPLs, and other internal and external stakeholder groups as an individual contributor.

Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and collaboration skills. Must be able to communicate complex scientific concepts and strategy in oral and written form.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

Direct hands-on experience with adjuvant evaluation is desired.

Known leader in adjuvant field.

Industry experience is preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence.

Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment both within and outside of Pfizer.
