Responsibilities

This position provides support to the MAT Avionics panel leadership by providing technical expertise to identify and develop independent and objective technical risk assessments on mission critical launch vehicle Avionics components and systems and on an as-required basis, launch support hardware and launch processing procedures that impact mission success. This includes avionics assemblies and subassemblies, systems, mission unique hardware (e.g. wire harnesses), and Electrical GSE (as required).

Identify issues and develop independent and objective technical risk assessments on mission critical launch vehicle Avionics based on deviations to the launch vehicle baseline (qualification), including documented non-conformances, analyses, out-of-family items, out of position work, and changes implemented by the launch vehicle contractor for customer missions.

Participate in MAT hardware reviews as required at the major element suppliers and to launch preparation and integration facilities where hardware is built, records kept, or where substantial technical information pertaining to the mission resides.

Work with the MAT Structures/Mechanical and Propulsion disciplines on issues as required.

Provide MAT Leadership insight into launch vehicle technical activities and reviews (Engineering Review Boards, Anomaly Review Boards, Mission-Readiness Reviews, Working Group meetings/TIMs, etc.).

Prepare and brief status of issues to MAT leadership.

Document technical issues in the MAT on-line tools and perform risk assessments.

Provide support to MAT Leadership in the preparation of Mission Director Briefings.

Participate in MAT Avionics discipline meetings.

Qualifications

Skills:

Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Must have a strong analytical and computational background and understand the systems engineering process.

Education: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (Masters degree preferred)

Experience:

Sixteen years in launch vehicle or space vehicle qualified Avionics systems design, manufacturing and/or test. SpaceX Falcon launch vehicle experience is desired. A background in Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) or electrical components engineering is desirable.

Security:

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Travel:

The MAT team members support visits to launch vehicle major elements suppliers and to launch preparation and integration facilities where hardware is built, records kept, or where substantial technical information pertaining to the mission resides. The position may require significant travel (>25%) to perform duties.

Work Location:

The work location is flexible (Denver, CO or El Segundo, CA) and may include the option of Home Office.
