The Healthcare Data Analytics Consultant is an internal position that supports the operational needs for client savings. This includes the ongoing evolution of the savings methods to assess the value of OptumHealth Care Solutions' products and services. Functional Description:


Positions in this function produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from unstructured, diverse datasets typically measured in gigabytes or larger.  Applies  knowledge of statistics, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to program evaluation & improvement.  Uses a flexible, analytical approach to design both rules-based algorithmic or descriptive analytics, as well as more complex analyses.  This role will develop, evaluate and apply descriptive, predictive and prescriptive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data.  Works with analytics and statistical software such as SAS to perform analysis and interpret data.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports OptumHealth Care Solutions value measurement research and development activities
  • Codes production level robust, repeatable & well documented SAS programs to extract health insurance claims data and health care operational data
  • Production of accurate analysis results to support contractual obligations and performance guarantees (PGs) for high visibility clients
  • Creates data extracts, cleanses data and produces normative information for calculating ROI
  • Data acquisition and methods vary greatly by client - position supports both standard methods as well as non-standard methods
  • Analyzing and manipulating large sets of healthcare data
  • Advanced Programming data in SAS
  • Advanced Analytics in SAS
  • Working with programmers (ETL team) and database administrators on database design
  • Analyzing healthcare claim cost and utilization data from multiple source systems
  • Creating user documentation
  • Investigating health care information and identifying and proposing solutions for data issues
  • Participate in quality assurance and user acceptance testing by writing test scripts, executing test cases and documenting defects
