The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC, next to the Foggy Bottom metro. 3 South is a 43-bed unit that includes one VIP suite. The unit provides specialized care to patients with a focus on Cardiology, Thoracic, Vascular and CT surgery. All of our nurses are CPR and ACLS certified.

  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Syncope
  • Pre/Post Procedure: Cardiac Catheterization (Femoral and Radial), Pacemakers, Defibrillators Placement, Ablation
  • Dysrthymias
  • Pre/Post Open Heart Surgery: CABG, Valve repairs and replacements, TAVR
  • Vascular
  • Thoracic: Lobectomy/Wedge Resection

We invite you to join us in Defining Medicine through our RN Residency Program for new graduates.

The GW Nurse Residency Program establishes your foundation as a nurse, as you participate in an extensive 2 year program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused evidence based approach to learning, clinical preceptorship and new hire support/mentorship. Due to the extensive training you will receive as part of the GW Hospital RN Residency Program, you are expected to commit to 2 years of service at GW Hospital. Your immersion into the 2 year RN Residency Program will set you up for success to bridge to any specialty you desire.

Job Requirements


Graduate of an accredited or NLN -approved RN program. BSN required.

Current CPR certification.

New grad RNs MUST have taken their NCLEX and passed before the start of the program. It is strongly recommended to sit for a DC RN license when registering to take your boards.

2 Letters of recommendation from clinical instructors on letterhead

Official Transcripts (Unofficial will be accepted if followed by official with GPA at minimum of 3.0 or higher no exceptions!!

Current licensure status to include NCLEX test date and jurisdiction (e.g. DC, Maryland, VA) If you have not graduated please indicate the state you plan to obtain your initial licensure.

Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment required by facility.

Effective Communication skills, both verbal and written

Effective interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities.
