Responsible for assisting in managing and supervising the Clinical Assessment Center and the coordination of this service with other hospital departments, especially the Admission and the Community Relations Department in providing service to patients from the ages of 5-65+. As such, major responsibilities include supervision of ClinicalAssessmentCenter staff, monitoring and directing inquiry calls, organizing and deleting tasks related to the operation of the ClinicalAssessmentCenter, and compiling and reporting statistical information.


Knowledge of the Intake Clinicians duties and the ability to function in that role.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Exhibits organizational leadership and active involvement in multi-disciplinary committees and task forces.

Ability to analyze information and develop goals departmentally.

Employee motivation and conflict resolution skills, as well as the ability to coach and conduct teaching moments.

Knowledge of all organizational and departmental policies and procedures as well as union contracts.

Management of resources, including staffing and scheduling.

Knowledge and demonstration of customer service standard.


Defines responsibilities and assignments in writing.

Ensures that the staff schedule and configuration will meet the needs and demands of callers, based on past experience.

Monitors change of shift communications and reporting between staff members as well as other departments involved in the ongoing operation of the services.

Meets daily with the Director of the ClinicalAssessmentCenter to develop daily schedule plan.

Notifies the Director of the ClinicalAssessmentCenter immediately regarding sensitive inquiry calls.

Implements and coordinates an end-of-shift reporting model to ensure accurate information exchange.

Completes daily and monthly staffing schedules for Intake clinicians.

Stands on call duties for the ClinicalAssessmentCenter cooperatively with the Director.

Collaborates with the Director of the Clinical Assessment Center to ensure Clinical Assessment Center goals and objectives are consistent with overall hospital goals and objectives.

Develops goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to the operational needs of the service.

Develops and assists in supervising a system that ensures inquiry calls are answered in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.

Monitors the FTE usage.

Is actively involved in and aware of all inquiries, patient admissions, patient discharges, patient transfers, and caller dispositions.

Develops and assists in supervising a system that ensures documentation is complete and legible

Attends daily census meetings (as designated by the Director of ClinicalAssessmentCenter) where all inquiry calls and dispositions are reviewed.

Meets daily with the Director of ClinicalAssessmentCenter to review the upcoming schedule and to address problem areas from the previous 24 hours.

Meets weekly with the Director of ClinicalAssessmentCenter to solidify relationships and ensure compliance with goals and objectives.

Ensures that daily flash report pending action log and ClinicalAssessmentCenter copies are available for daily Census meeting.

Compiles data for inquiry statistics and ensures data is sent to computer database in Community Relation Department on a routine basis.

Coordinates weekly staff meetings and posts minutes for all staff not in attendance.

Stand on call duties after hours.

Ensures that marketing emphasis is toward achieving full census.

Maintains effective ongoing relationship with referral sources.

Provides education, support, and recognition to staff participating in referral development activities.

Collaborates with the Director of ClinicalAssessmentCenter and monitors the marketing plan for the ClinicalAssessmentCenter.

Participates proactively in all program-based and hospital-wide marketing.

Maintains close communications system with Admissions office to ensure efficient admission process and adequate referral information.

Handles or refers all patient, family, and referral source complaints promptly.

Ensures quality assurance compliance in Directors absence.

In coordination with the hospitals Human Resources Department, maintains and allocates adequate resources of well-qualified staff.

Ensures that hiring, disciplinary action, and termination procedures are timely and conducted in accordance with hospital policy.

Involves the Director of ClinicalAssessmentCenter in all above responsibilities prior to implementation.

Ensures adequate supervision and yearly evaluation processes for staff members.

Ensures adequate ClinicalAssessmentCenter orientation for new employees, attending physicians, and allied health professionals.

Assists in providing for educational needs and professional development of staff.

Assists with the orientation of new staff as well as the teaching of Staff Development programs as requested.

Participates in Hospital Committees as assigned.

Job Requirements

Two years of paid clinical experience in mental health services

One year of psychiatric intake and assessment experience, preferably in inpatient setting.

DC Registered Nurse License .

Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
