**Role Responsibilities**



+ Deliver new small molecule projects to the portfolio through collaborations with disease area biologists, clinicians, external companies and academic institutions to establish robust lead generation approaches

+ Lead projects through the Hit-to-Lead phase to ensure they move forward with scientific excellence, efficiency and speed

+ Lead projects through the Lead Optimization phase to ensure delivery of small molecule/synthetic drug candidates with scientific excellence, efficiency and speed

+ Drive high performance team effectiveness in all projects that they lead or contribute to

+ Drive and catalyzes innovation and discipline excellence in Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Design through the introduction and implementation of novel approaches, methods and modalities to the drug discovery process

+ Collaborate closely with other scientific leaders across Medicine Design to improve effectiveness of synthetically-derived drug discovery at Pfizer to ensure we remain amongst industry leaders

+ Lead the identification of external scientific opportunities to develop and advance Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Design capabilities at Pfizer



+ Sit on a Medicinal Chemistry leadership team, providing strategic guidance and input to the effective running and career development of a group of 30-50 medicinal chemists focused on a specific disease area

+ Play a leading role in enhancing the external reputation of Pfizer's Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Design and synthetic Drug Discovery capabilities through high profile publications and presentations at leading conferences



**Qualifications**



**Basic Qualifications**



+ Doctorate level degree in relevant area of science, or equivalent industrial experience

+ Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry

+ Strong track record of delivering high impact contributions to Med Chem projects, including to projects that have delivered agents into the clinic

+ Expert working knowledge of the key Research and Development disciplines and scientific lines responsible for pharmaceutical drug discovery and development

+ Experience of leading matrixed teams of internal/CRO staff scientist to deliver project objectives

+ Consistent record of peer-reviewed publications from scientific work to date, to include medicinal chemistry/ drug discovery



**Preferred**



+ Examples of successful introduction or application of novel methods or technologies into drug discovery organizations in order to improve productivity in medicinal chemistry

+ Several examples of high impact publications in Medicinal Chemistry/ Drug Discovery

+ Experience of successfully supervising and/ or mentoring junior staff, post docs or interns
