Auto req ID: 236538BR Job Description Position Summary: In this role, the Sr. Chemist designs and conducts high-level analytical testing for product/packaging development and various problem-solving requests with a focus on the Pepsi beverage portfolio. The position also offers opportunities of interacting with PepsiCo Gatorade and Tropicana businesses. Primary job duties include performing GCMS volatile and flavor analytical testing. The position interfaces with the product, process, and packaging development, quality, and food safety teams, delivering input for robust experimental design and ensuring timely results and insights. The individual helps maintain instrumentation and develop a methodology to achieve business priorities and helps identify new volatile measurement capability. The individual must also have strong oral and written business communication skills. Major Responsibilities: Perform GCMS volatile chemical and flavor analyses that support product and process development and troubleshooting Chromatographic data interpretation and correlation back to process materials or contamination issues Collaborate as a member of the Measurement Sciences team to support Product, Process, & Package Development and Quality initiatives Develops, validates, and documents methods for volatile chemical and flavor analyses Integrate functional expertise with business objectives to identify critical testing needs and timing Generate reports, insights, and presentations that clearly and concisely communicate conclusions and recommendations Keep current on leading-edge analytical technologies and bring new capabilities to PepsiCo laboratories Maintain accurate records and documentationCritical Competencies: Demonstrated expertise and strong knowledge of flavor, analytical, and food chemistry Expertise in techniques for isolation of volatile compounds from food, beverage, and packaging Expertise in GCMS instrumentation and relative software such as MassHunter and ChomaTOF Proven track record in experimental design, creative thinking, technical explanation, and reporting Ability to troubleshoot, identify root cause, and implement corrective action Communicate information on a clear, proactive, and timely basis Work effectively as a member of cross-functional teams Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet evolving goals and needs of the business Proactively seeks innovative and rapid technologies/automation for conducting test procedures and practices that promote lab performance and efficiencies Outstanding teamwork, communication, and leadership skills #LI-USA Qualifications/Requirements Ph.D. in Flavor, Analytical or Food Chemistry with 0-2 years of experience or a Master's Degree in Flavor, Analytical or Food Chemistry with 3-5+ years of experience in GC and GCMS headspace analysis of foods, beverages and/or flavor components Expertise in isolation of volatile compounds from food and/or beverages Strong knowledge and experience in GC and GCMS Outstanding teamwork, communication and leadership skills Excellent oral and written presentation skills #LI-USA Relocation Eligible: Eligible for Limited Relocation Job Type: Regular All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability status.
