Willow Springs Center has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic and compassionate Recreational Therapist.

The Recreational Therapists perform initial and periodic assessments, treatment planning, and therapeutic services to assist individuals improve their mental and physical health and/or social functioning. They assess recreational interests and physical, mental and/or emotional limitations; review medical records and confer with other personnel regarding physical disabilities, injuries or other medical conditions; evaluate individual needs and strengths; prepare treatment plans and document prescribed therapeutic activities. Recreational Therapists plan, organize, schedule, coordinate and conduct a wide variety of therapeutic activities and individual and group therapy sessions in areas such as assertiveness training, Recreational therapists observe individuals during activities in order to evaluate performance and leisure skill development. They assess and document individual progress in meeting treatment goals; record progress notes and revise treatment recommendations as appropriate; attend interdisciplinary treatment team meetings to provide input regarding therapeutic progress. Finally this position develops recreational and leisure activity resources and ensure the coordination of activities, equipment and resources for programs.

Job Duties

  1. Develops and implements activities to increase social, cognitive, physical and creative aspects of the patient.
  2. Provides direction, education and in-service to other program personnel regarding therapeutic activities.
  3. Manages therapeutic space, supplies, and equipment ensuring cleanliness, orderliness and safety.
  4. Provides quality customer service when dealing with patients/families, other team members, physicians, co-workers, and other departments.
  5. Creates a positive environment by managing unpredictable situations.
  6. Designs groups that meet individual needs based on treatment plans; integrates individualized needs with the larger community programming.
  7. Ensures that activities are age-specific and address the specific therapeutic requirements of the patients.
  8. Facilitates and/or co-facilitates therapeutic recreation activities, psycho-educational groups and one to one interventions.
  9. Relates to patients in a respectful, professional and ethical manner.
  10. Develops policies utilizing innovative rehabilitation and therapeutic recreational group process techniques to improve performance outcomes for clients.
  11. Conducts all groups in accordance with pre-approved policies and procedures.
  12. May become required to achieve certification in the Ropes Course Programming. Would be expected to maintain certification through continuing education.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.

Experience: At least 2 years of related experience in providing recreational programming for psychiatric or patients aged 5-17 years.

Licensure: Must have current CTRS. Must maintain a valid Nevada driver's license.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements may be considered.
