Our recently expanded 112-bed inpatient program has 4 units. Job Requirements

Job Description: Directs in coming telephone calls through the switchboard. Assists and directs visitors and patients in the lobby. Maintains pleasant and courteous manner in the lobby. Assists other administrative departments as needed with computer tasks, etc.

Professional Competencies

Answer and direct all incoming telephone calls in a professional, pleasant and courteous manner. Directs questions to appropriate staff.

Greet, answer questions and supply information to visitors, patients, and staff. Maintain visitor log and issue visitor pass with proper approval. Maintain sign-in/sign-out log and confidentiality statement.

Able to type and complete tasks for other departments in a timely and efficient manner. Works cooperatively with other departments to complete tasks as assigned.

Effectively manages paperwork for individuals presenting for assessment. Performs patient related duties appropriately with regard to patient age. Cooperate with all other hospital departments to provide patient demographic /insurance information, face sheets / addressograph stamps as needed.

Adheres to HR / Safety / Infection Control Policies & Procedures of the Hospital and follows universal precautions at all times. Fulfills employee health requirements including, but not limited to, annual PPD or chest x-ray.

Participates in the Performance Improvement process as directed for this department. Attends required inservices prior to yearly employee appraisal.

Sell employee and guest meal tickets. Performs other duties as assigned to include taking apart patient charts, preparation of patient identification labels, preparation of purchase orders

Able to operate the Fire Alarm System and competent to perform duties during fire / disaster alert or emergency. Coordinate required communication during fire alarm /disaster alert. Effectively communicates code alert by UHF radio and paging system.

Correctly and efficiently enters information into the Patient Disclosure Database in an efficient manner ensuring accuracy of information.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.   1. EDUCATION: High School Graduate. Business degree preferred.

  1. EXPERIENCE: Prior experience as receptionist or telephone operator preferred.

  1. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Knowledge of switchboard, computer skills including MS Office.


  1. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Intake Director

  1. GENERAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT: General interaction with the public in the lobby area and continuous telephone operation. Some risk involved in the event of the presence of an aggressive patient.

  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for extended periods of time, using a computer display station for an extended period of time. The physical requirements described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job.
