This role is part of the R&D Measurement Sciences team, a team focused on smart data, driving decisions and insights through efficient data generation, interpretation, and communication. The R&D Analytical Scientist will provide technical oversight for daily operations and key project initiatives. The focus of this role is on Regulatory Testing, Analytical Equipment (Technical Oversite), Quality Management, and Building Capability within the lab area. In this role, the Analytical Scientist may also conduct chemical and physical lab analyses to evaluate the composition of snacks, ingredients, food products, raw materials, or quality samples. Additional responsibilities include assisting in routine wet chemistry, instrumental analysis, communicating with R&D or Operations for product management, and reporting data into a laboratory information management system. This position will report to the Regulatory Testing team manager and is located at our Global R&D facility in Plano, TX. Primary Responsibilities: Provide support as a subject matter expert (SME) for LC/MS data analysis, mass hunter software, and robotic autosampler/SPE. Responsible for LC/MS (and all test related equipment) troubleshooting, maintenance & minor repair. Contact/schedule vendor for major repairs. Responsible for instrument PMs scheduling and all communication with vendors. Conduct/lead special testing projects to optimize testing process. Develop instrument/process methods per global requirements. Responsible for training all new technicians assigned to regulatory testing area, according to PepsiCo methods/procedures. Responsible for data review, identifying interferences in chromatography and sample retests. Responsible for product and platform trend analysis and dashboard development (for sample tracking and root cause analysis). Analytical review/communication with stakeholders. Conduct new product reviews to confirm optimal testing per different matrices. Provide technical oversite for new laboratory information management system integration in assigned lab area. Maintain accurate equipment and quality records and assure the reliability of measurement systems by using appropriate Good Lab Practices (GLP). Support manager in the smooth running of the lab area. Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) in regulatory testing area to ensure accuracy of results. Maintain appropriate QMS records. Percent Travel: up to 10%. #LI-USA Qualifications/Requirements Masters degree or higher in Chemistry, Food Science, or related discipline with 3+ years experience in a laboratory environment. Experience with LC/MS data analysis, mass hunter software, and robotic autosampler/SPE. Knowledge and experience in food chemistry, analytical techniques, instrumentation, and statistics. Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) in a laboratory environment is preferred. Experience with instrument maintenance, troubleshooting & minor repair. Must possess a strong attention to detail. Highly developed critical thinking skills required to determine various potential technical solutions and solve technical problems. Experience in foods and beverages preferred. Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work as part of a team and closely with the technicians responsible for analytical testing. Demonstrated ability to learn, share new techniques and adapt to new ways of working Strong understanding and actioning of Good Lab Practices and Lab Safety procedures. Good understanding of hazardous chemicals and ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals. Strong organizational skills, with an ability to keep neat, orderly, and complete records. Ability to prepare graphs and tables using appropriate computer software such as Microsoft Excel.
