Functional Description:

As an Associate Principal Scientist on this team, you will play a key role in leading new beverage product development projects. As a project leader, you will be routinely interacting equipment engineering, ingredient technology, marketing, and supply chain management. Additionally, you will frequently interact directly with some of PepsiCos top customers. The diversity of products and the span of organizational interaction will expand your knowledge of the food and beverage industry. This a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth.

What you can expect to do in role:

Develop beverage products with superior design leveraging expertise in food chemistry, food ingredient functionality and experimental design supporting PepsiCos Food Service division

Translate market trends, customer requirements and consumer needs into strategic and tactical new product innovation projects

Key Accountabilities:

Utilize scientific methods to develop knowledge that creates business opportunities that support the company strategic market objectives

Provide technical and business risk assessment/perspectives related to new product development

Design and execute experiments and analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues

Know in detail and follow the Technical Stage-Gate innovation process to ensure both robust product design and full cross-functional alignment

Leverage external and internal experts for key analytical and sensory research

Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredients, ingredient suppliers, and product formulations

Develop product formulations that leverage expertise in food chemistry and food ingredient functionality

Develop complete product attribute specifications for new products

Ensure scaled up new formulas produced at plants meet product specifications; partner with engineering to identify any new equipment requirements to produce new formulas at plants

Work in tandem with the fountain equipment engineering team to ensure that new products perform to design specifications in the field

Partner externally to source ingredients and leverage vendor expertise in ingredient functionality

Participate as an active member of cross-functional business development teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, and other groups

Work together with the Technology Applications and New Platforms team to develop strategic and competitive solutions for the platform

Partnering with R&D disciplines as Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Nutrition, Regulatory, to ensure a robust, safe and legal product design

Detail-oriented individual who can support and partner with lead Scientists during accelerated product development life cycles that include new idea generation, prototype development, product optimization, production start-up for test market and national launching of new products.

Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - Each candidate is expected to have:

B.S. in Food Science & Technology or related scientific field

5+ years of Product Development experience in the Food Industry

The ability and interest to work in the laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing scale environments

Strong communication skills (oral and written) needed to provide project updates both within the technical community and with our business partners. Also critical in support of Sales and Marketing presentations and product presentations for external customers

Willingness to travel

Translate market trends, customer requirements and consumer needs into strategic and tactical new product innovation projects
