Performs preventive maintenance, calibrations, modifications, installs, and troubleshoots/repairs a wide range of pharmaceutical related production systems and technologies. Can provide operational and apprentice training in the implementation of those systems in compliance with company standards and procedures and government regulations (SOPs, GMPs, GLPs, PSM, etc). Can serve as a maintenance subject matter expert in areas of engineering (process design, material selection, documentation, calibration, testing and problem solving methodology, project scope and follow up). Responsible for priority assessment and decision making as it relates to troubleshooting, diagnostics, assembly, repair, and a proactive maintenance of systems and equipment in a cost effective manner. Utilize tools of the trade to include basic tools and electrical signal measuring and calibration devices. Possibility to be exposed to hazardous materials, heights, temperature extremes, equipment in motion, dusty and dirty conditions, stooping, bending and heavy lifting. Participates in multicraft work activities as required. (EMU craft generic)


Responsible for priority assessment and decision making as it relates to troubleshooting, diagnostics, assembly, repair, and a proactive maintenance of systems and equipment in a cost-effective manner.

Functional/Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of basic discipline. Limited knowledge of industry practices and standards.

Problem Solving and Innovation: Develop solutions to routine problems following established Pfizer policies and procedures. Communication in developing and implementing solutions is critical.

Discretion, Latitude, Level of Independence: Works with minimal Supervision.

Impact and Organizational Contribution: Contributes to the completion of routine tasks.

Teamwork/Influence: Contacts are primarily within immediate work group or within normal process-related work flow.

Time Span of Work: Daily tasks and deliverables. Results can usually be measured on daily or weekly basis.

Additional duties and responsibilities may include-

+ Checkout/qualification of electrical input/output signals and related signal wiring for field instrumentation and devices

+ Install, calibrate, maintain, and inspect process systems throughout the facility.

+ Inspect and review manufacturing equipment installations for design and troubleshooting purposes.

+ Mentoring of apprentices in related field

+ Review and update preventive maintenance tasks and procedures as needed


High school diploma / general education degree (GED) plus either an Associate's degree or relevant experience. Self-starter with ability to work independently and strong mechanical aptitude. Journeyman Process Instrumentation technician preferred but will also consider Licensed Journeyman Electrician with Instrument experience.

Completion of a company apprenticeship program or its equivalent is required.

+ Electrician Apprenticeship program plus minimum of 5 years related instrument experience such as: Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Conductivity, etc.


+ Minimum of 8 years related instrument experience, per above.


Demonstrated aptitude in basic mechanical, electrical and instrumentation skills and problem-solving techniques. Experience with cGMP and commissioning and qualification pertaining to pharmaceutical production operations and computerized systems are highly desirable. General knowledge of production equipment and processes controlled by automation systems.


Routinely exposed to hazardous materials, heights, temperature extremes, equipment in motion, noisy, dusty and dirty conditions, stooping, bending and heavy lifting. May work variable shifts and 24 hour on call as required. Participates in multi-craft work activities as required. (EMU craft generic). The proper use of the correct Personal Protective Equipment for each task as well as compliance with all applicable safety Standard Procedures is a must.
