**Principal Scientist / Senior Principal Scientist, Project Lead, Innovative Parenteral Product Development**



**Two positions available: Principal Scientist and Senior Principal Scientist**



An essential component of Pfizer at Sandwich, our Pharmaceutical Sciences function supports Pfizer's early to late stage portfolio, translating new chemical entities into commercial drug products. Pharmaceutical Sciences at Sandwich is a fully integrated Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls capability that encompasses state of the art active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis and drug product design as well as a cGMP manufacturing and clinical trials supply chain. Within Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Innovative Parenteral Product Development (IPPD) department utilises expertise in analytical chemistry, materials science, formulation design and process understanding to deliver new parenteral medicines.



We are seeking experienced scientists with excellent people skills and well-established project leadership credentials to join our Research and Development teams in Sandwich.



**Job Focus**



The successful candidate will have a proven track record in pharmaceutical development and will support Pfizer's Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule portfolio through matrix leadership of technical project teams.They will use their experience and broad knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D to help project teams develop effective and robust parenteral drug products, manufacturing processes and control strategies appropriate for clinical development and commercialisation.They will work in cross-functional project teams and collaborate with other teams within Pharmaceutical Sciences such as chemists, engineers, formulators, as well as with other groups within the wider Pfizer organisation.



**Responsibilities**



Lead a project team of scientists in R&D activities associated with novel product development including treatments for Covid-19, rare infectious disease, cancer, and other life-threatening conditions.



Apply extensive knowledge and experience of pharmaceutical development to guide the development of robust pharmaceutical products, processes and control strategies.



Provide exemplary support to projects through all phases of clinical development through to commercial approval.



Act as a line representative on multidisciplinary project teams.



Author sections of CMC regulatory documentation.



Provide technical mentoring and support to colleagues within their project teams and the department and actively participate in knowledge management activities.



Actively seek to identify and implement new technologies, process improvements, computational tools and digital design approaches.



Maintain written records of experimental work in accordance with GLP and departmental philosophies and review other colleagues' experimental work to same standard.



Direct and contribute to departmental operational activities (e.g. training, safety, resource forecasting etc.)



**Qualifications**



Honours or Masters degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline with a high degree classification (e.g. equivalent of U.K. 1st or 2nd class).



PhD degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is desirable but not essential.



**Skills and Experience**



A team orientated person with significant experience in contributing to and leading technical projects in the pharmaceutical or a related industry.



Very good knowledge and experience in small or large molecule pharmaceutical development with ability to proactively apply scientific technical skills and knowledge to projects.



The senior principal scientist role will require additional substantial evidence of autonomy and application of project lead skills and behaviours covering drug product candidate and technology projects



A rational approach to problem solving with strong attention to detail.



Excellent project management and organisational skills.



Excellent communication skills.



High level of practical competence with good laboratory safety awareness.



Experience with the development of parenteral dosage forms and associated processes and technologies (e.g. lyophilisation), CMC regulatory submissions, and familiarity with the use of computational, modelling and simulation tools are desirable.



Very good knowledge and experience in small or large molecule pharmaceutical development with ability to proactively apply scientific technical skills and knowledge to projects.
