Pfizer's Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) in Cambridge, MA is seeking a preclinical research and drug discovery Principal Scientist. The focus of the scientist will be to lead drug discovery programs or specific areas of biological exploration within the oncology (expertise in topics such as chromatin modulation, senescence, DNA damage response a plus) metabolic disease or tissue remodeling areas. The scientist should have a strong track record of publications and drug discovery expertise in at least one of these key therapeutic areas but also have the ability and desire to adapt, learn, and explore new areas of biology. The role further requires the successful candidate to be a lab scientist possessing a depth of skill and knowledge in the conduct of primary research using advanced tools employed in molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry.

CTI is an entrepreneurial group within Pfizer that partners with leading academic medical centers and disease foundations to translate promising science into novel therapeutics.

The ideal candidate will be an integral part of therapeutic research project teams that advance CTI's portfolio. He/she will work collaboratively with CTI personnel, other Pfizer colleagues within a matrixed environment, and academic partners who are subject matter experts. Therefore, the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse array of collaborators is essential. The candidate will lead teams, drive biology strategy, identify and assess external collaborative opportunities, support assay development, and evaluate molecular mechanisms of action and drug-target pharmacology.


+ Lead collaborative research with academic partners to investigate drug targets in areas such as oncology, metabolic disease, or tissue remodeling

+ Demonstrate deep scientific and technical expertise to advance our understanding therapeutics hypotheses

+ Generate, organize, analyze, interpret data, and identify areas where key knowledge is

lacking. Proactively seek solutions leads via genetics,

literature, conferences, and key opinion leaders with the goal of refining scientific hypothesis and expediting experimental plans.

+ Evaluate opportunities for partnerships with academic experts across multiple therapeutic areas

+ Work independently to develop and execute research plans ranging from early drug discovery to early development and clinical planning.

+ Present at group meetings, project team meetings, and site meetings. Strong english language written and oral communication skills necessary.

+ Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate into individual project(s) as well as the overall program

+ Contribute to building a culture that embraces scientific excellence, urgency, partnerships with key stakeholders, continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base

+ Take a proactive role in personal growth and scientific development


+ Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology or related field

+ Postdoctoral experience and with 4+ years industry experience

+ Track record of innovative and impactful research including peer-reviewed publications

+ Ability to work in matrixed environment on cross-functional teams

+ Ability to effectively interact and communicate with multidisciplinary scientists, both internally and externally; excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills essential

+ Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, propose and develop new experimental approaches

+ Desire to work across different therapeutic areas, applying broad biological knowledge to different targets and teams simultaneously

+ Scientific curiosity to explore new areas of biology and molecular mechanisms

+ Experience in small and large molecule drug discovery preferred
