**ROLE SUMMARY**

Pfizer's Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) is a pioneering research unit that partners with leading academic medical centers and disease foundations to translate novel breakthroughs into therapies that change patients' lives. This is a unique opportunity for a driven, exceptional immunologist to leverage their expertise while collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams at Pfizer along with world-leading academic subject-matter experts. For this role, we are seeking a scientist with a broad and extensive background in the field of immunology as demonstrated by a track record of high-quality publications and work history. The role further requires the successful candidate to possess a depth of skill and knowledge in the conduct of primary research using advanced tools employed in modern molecular and cellular immunology.

**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**

The candidate will be expected to conduct independent research in broad areas of interest to Pfizer but will be focused primarily on molecular and cellular immunology. The candidate will be expected to design, direct, and conduct molecular, cellular, and biochemical experiments and assays to better understand the biology of drug targets and their molecular pathways and to use these tools to evaluate early stage drug candidates. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the identification and evaluation of very early stage projects entering the research portfolio and to develop research plans to validate and advance such programs. Although, the primary focus will be on immunology, the role will also involve other areas of interest to Pfizer that may include oncology, metabolic disease, and rare diseases. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate abilities, interest, and the mental agility to pursue research outside of their specific area of expertise.

The candidate will be a first line manager and part of a highly matrixed multidisciplinary team comprising other members of CTI, partner-lines, disease research units, and collaborating academic scientists. Therefore, the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse array of collaborators is essential.

The candidate will conduct research in a manner ensuring that aggressive project deliverables and timelines are met. The candidate is expected to embrace and embody the entrepreneurial and externally collaborative spirit and biotech-like culture, values, and goals of CTI and to contribute to creating an exciting, collaborative, productive, and scientifically rigorous working environment.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**

+ PhD in immunology or closely related field

+ Productive postdoctoral experience evidenced by high quality publications. Publication record should reflect significant knowledge in an area of immunology.

+ Three or more years of academic or pharma/biotech research experience beyond postdoctoral training.

+ Strong desire to be a "hands-on" scientist who directly utilizes their technical expertise at the bench to test hypotheses, develop compelling data packages, and advance biological knowledge along with drug development projects.

+ Candidate must be self-motivated and enthusiastic about learning new areas of biology and in creating practical applications of those learnings.

+ Highly collaborative with a strong desire to make simultaneous contributions to multiple independent projects in a highly matrixed organization.

+ Strong English language written and oral communication skills.

**Technical competencies**

+ Experience in the design, execution, and analysis of cellular, molecular, and/or biochemical assays focused on the field of immunology.

+ Significant expertise in the use and interpretation of FACS largely for the purpose of immune cell profiling.

+ Technical skills should include experience with most or all of the following: PCR, RT-PCR, TaqMan, cell-based assays (e.g. cellular cytotoxicity, proliferation, reporter, ligand binding, etc. with multiple readouts), Western blotting, multi-analyte profiling, high content imaging, immunocytochemistry.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

+ Evidence of ability to conduct research outside the primary area of concentration is highly desirable

+ Experience in tissue dissociation, tissue-resident immune cell isolation, and characterization of those cells is desirable.

+ Expertise in the use and interpretation of single cell genomics technologies largely for the purpose of immune cell profiling is desirable.

+ Prior industry experience is desirable.

+ Prior managerial experience is desirable.
