The optical platform design team is responsible for the optical platform planning, design, technology roadmap and technology introduction for optical transport to meet AT&T business needs. The role of the optical layer is to provide cost-effective high-speed transport for the packet layer and large enterprise customers wanting dedicated services. In addition, the team representing AT&T maintains the lead role in the industry consortia known as Open ROADM with the goal of creating open standards for optical networks that allows us to mix and match differing supplier technologies in providing the transport gears (transponders, ROADMs, third party optics) creating competition and significant commoditization of the optical network. Work on state-of-the-art optical layer that can support 400G today, and to support higher speeds (e.g., 800G) as they become viable that can be flexibly controlled via a centralized SDN controller.


The qualified candidate must have hardware and software experience, formal training in electrical engineering and computer science with 10 or more years of relevant experience. Track records of solving complex engineering problems, experience working with project teams delivering on project commitments with quality and speed. Network background with experience and knowledge of network architecture, ethernet, routing protocols, systems architecture and SDN. Hands on experience with network equipment, multi-layer SDN, testing and automation. Familiarity of packet optical technology, software-defined networks (SDNs), Open architectures for transport, cross-layer network architectures, backbone network design, network cost optimization, optical networks. Must be motivated and willing to pivot, flexible in assignment and have the technical capabilities to perform and pivot to different roles: system architecture and engineering, collaborate with cross organization team and suppliers to develop requirements, perform pre-GA code design validation. Collaborate with client sponsor, certification team, ATS, planner providing guidance and support testing activities for technology introduction.


Examples of some requirements work include developing and documenting feature requirements to support new network element introduction, service provisioning, service assurance features requirements and feature interactions for 400G/100G/10G/1G services and infrastructure for both the Metro and Core ROADM networks. Work with IT System Architects to design IT solutions for requested features. Host meetings with internal Customer Organizations (Client Sponsors, Planners, Operations, Advance Technical Support) to understand their needs and requests, document those requirements in support of developing Features/Use Cases/Process Flows for a target release. Work with L2/L3 partners to support their current and future Services over the L1 ROADM network


**Required Qualifications** -


+ Candidate shall have a PhD in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience


**Skills and Experience:**


+ 10 or more years of Telecommunication Industry experience working in Network Design, Service Implementation, Proof of Concept Validation, Production Network Implementation and Management of Global State-of-Art Networks.

+ Hands on experience with Networking/Optical Equipment (Cisco, Nokia, Juniper, Fujitsu)

+ Strong attention to detail required ensuring effective planning, implementation and execution.

+ Knowledge of Metro & Core L0/L1/L2/L3 Architecture/Maintenance/Management/Services and Process Flows

+ Working Knowledge of DWDM, WDM, OTN as it pertains to Metro & Core Optical Networks

+ Strong Leadership and ability to develop lasting interpersonal working relationships across multiple Company Organizations and the Vendor Community

+ Ability to develop, work with and Manage/Lead Cross-Functional Work Groups that is both internal and external (Vendor) along with various IT Software Development Teams towards development of Requirements/Features/Use Cases/Process Flows in support of Metro & Core SDN Infrastructure and Services.

+ Lead independent 3rd Party Test Teams and SW Development Teams in validating Use Case/Process Flows as well as trouble identification and resolution.

+ Ability to work with Operations/Planning/Advanced Technical Support in identifying and resolving any issues encountered in ongoing First Field Application validations in the Production Network

+ Possess a strong business acumen and aptitude to understand the key business drivers and financial knowledge to development return on investment models.

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills and writing relevant documentation
