Network Data modelling and analytics engineer

The candidate will be a part of a small but highly talented team of network data analytics professionals.


The individual will be responsible for detailed modelling and analysis of Network traffic with a focus on the IP/MPLS traffic flowing over the AT&T backbone packet network.

**Job responsibilities will include:**

+ Analyzing high volume network traffic data from various sources like Netflow, Sflow, SNMP, gRPC, DNS, content server logs etc. Extracting data from relational and non relational data stores. Understanding the semantics of such data, cleaning it up, scaling it as needed and preparing it using Python and C++ for further analysis.

+ Building routing rules (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS-TE) and graph theory based models on how the traffic would flow via the network and what proportion of traffic will be carried by what links under different what-if scenarios.

+ Creating detailed and summary traffic flow matrices by categorizing traffic volumes based on source-destination routers/router types/clients etc.

+ Predicting traffic trends and creating visualizations in Python/R/Excel showing traffic trends and patterns over time and over categories. Forecasting of Network traffic and Network port growth between various traffic categories using statistical time series forecasting methods in R/Python.

+ Perform exploratory data analysis, outlier cleanup, statistical testing, correlation calculations and predictive modelling and presenting results of the analysis to senior leadership and modelling via charts.

+ Helping the team with classification of data amongst different data types by extracting relevant features out of network traffic records and applying Machine learning based models on them.

+ Helping partner organizations with the re-architecture of storage and access of network traffic data using new big data and cloud based technologies. Enhancing existing python scripts and C++ code to adapt to new ways of data retrieval.

+ Partnering with Network design and operations teams on new ways of architecting the network based on results from network traffic modelling.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Masters in Computer Networking, Computer science, Telecommunications, Data science, Operations research, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related field with a min. of 2 years of experience in a data communications company in a data analytics role or a PhD in above fields.

Knowledge of packet network Routing protocols like OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS-TE and broad understanding of IP networking architectures. Expertise in Python, with the ability to write data analytics and graph theory modelling scripts and code using Pandas, Numpy, tries, graph-tool and data visualization libraries. Good knowledge of C++ or at least JAVA. Knowledge of Excel and creating data visualizations in Excel.

**Desired Qualifications:**

The following will be a plus: Hands on knowledge of big data and machine learning. Knowledge of data analytics with R. Hands on experience with Tableau. Ability to extract data from data warehouses using SQL and REST APIs.
