Optum Life Science Data Warehouse group is looking for an experienced Principal Data Engineer. LSDW is in the process of migrating from on-prem Oracle to Cloud platform, so in this role you will be contributing to LS product development on Oracle, as well as the ongoing migration to AWS RedShift. You are expected to be a self-starter, with a focus on solving Big Data problems and delivering timing-critical, high quality data products.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and test PL/SQL packages to support ETL (extract-transform-load) processing and solve complex problems
  • ""
  • Support LSDW migration from Oracle to AWS Redshift
  • ""
  • Lead projects; mentor junior team members
  • ""
  • Monitor performance and take corrective action to improve results and reconcile discrepancies between the expectations of the business and the structure of the data
  • ""
  • Collaborate with analytics and other teams to determine how current processing methods can be optimized, scaled, and improved
  • ""
  • Provide informed feedback for database design and data model decisions
  • ""
  • Support monthly data warehouse build process
  • ""
  • Code review
  • ""
  • Document all database objects, technical procedures, test plans and other elements.
  • ""
  • Be a good team player and comfortable working in a team environment. Sense of humor is strongly encouraged

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Statistics or any discipline involving data analysis and programming
  • ""
  • 10+ years of database programming experience (Oracle, SQL Server,)
  • ""
  • 5+ years experience working on large scale enterprise projects or consulting related projects
  • ""
  • 4+ years experience working with stakeholders on enterprise data integration
  • ""
  • Experience in automated testing including unit testing
  • ""
  • Experience architecting enterprise systems utilizing best practices and design patterns
  • ""
  • Experience communicating thru multiple mediums to internal/external stakeholders
  • ""
