**ROLE SUMMARY**

The IMRU Cardiomotabolism group is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral fellow to explore the metabolic etiology of Atrial Fibrillation in the search for new approaches to treat this disease. The successful candidate will lead efforts to characterize and quantify the severity of atrial fibrillation in preclinical models of the metabolic syndrome and evaluate the impact of genetic and pharmacological manipulations. This work will entail both physiological and molecular evaluations to identify mechanisms whereby metabolic dysfunction is capable of impacting atrial fibrillation and heart function.

The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) at Pfizer is dedicated to the identification of new approaches to treat the underlying metabolic alterations driving chronic diseases such as heart failure, diabetes, NASH, and cachexia. Within the IMRU, the Cardiometabolism group is focused on the intersection of heart failure and metabolic dysfunction, looking for first in class approaches to target heart diseases in diabetic and obese patients.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Lead preclinical efforts to establish in vivo evaluations of atrial fibrillation

+ Lead efforts to implement novel mechanistic studies of atrial structure (i.e. scRNAseq, tissue imaging)

+ conceptualize and design experiments

+ organize and conduct in vivo/ ex vivo/ in vitro studies independently (including preparation, data collection, interpretation, and presentation)

+ maintain awareness of scientific and technical developments in field

+ author manuscripts for quality publications in top-tier journals.

+ attend and present at international meetings and collaborate across groups in the research unit.



**QUALIFICATIONS**



+ PhD and less than 4 years of prior postdoctoral experience in relevant fields of biology (prior experience in heart function preferable)

+ Successful track record of scientific achievements through scientific publications and presentations.

+ Strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate
