The Pharmacy Technician positions primary responsibility is to oversee the management of all aspects of the practices medication management systems such as refills, drug samples, medication authorizations and electronic prescribing systems.  In addition, this staff member acts as liaison between the physician practice care team, the pharmacist both internal and external, and pharmaceutical representatives.    

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for securing drug sample storage closet
  • Stocks drug samples
  • Checks the sample closet for expired medications
  • Disposes of expired medications according to state and federal disposal regulations
  • Checks sample stock and makes recommendations for additional inventory
  • Contacts pharmaceutical representatives when samples are needed
  • Collects signatures from physicians for sample medications that come in the mail and fax signed receipt of samples back to sender
  • Maintains Erx groups in EHR on a daily basis
  • Distributes and manage faxes from pharmacies
  • Trouble shoots Erx and faxing issues
  • Acts as subject matter expert for EHR medication module use and setup
  • Acts as physician liaison to pharmaceutical representatives
  • Acts as physician care team liaison to pharmacies
  • Acts as patient liaison to the Care Team
  • Assists Pharmacist as needed
  • Performs medication reconciliation as needed
  • Manages unmatched electronic prescription refills
  • Identifies medication assistance programs and assists patients with applying for assistance
  • Establishes and maintains access to state Prescription Monitoring Program
  • Provides education including written materials to patients as needed
  • Process medication prior authorizations
  • Follows up on medication recalls
  • Performs patient outreach for medication adherence, generic drug and other medication monitoring reports
  • Assists members of the Care Team with medication research and general questions
