Havenwyck Hospital is a 243 bed, Joint Commission accredited and licensed psychiatric and substance abuse facility. We specializing in providing behavioral health and substance abuse treatment and are located in Auburn Hills overlooking Lake Galloway. 

Havenwyck Hospital provides a continuum of individualized treatment to children, adolescents and adults needing psychiatric and/or substance abuse treatment. Havenwyck strives to create a customized treatment plan for each individual based on level of maturity, life experiences, needs and other factors. Patients at Havenwyck are treated by a qualified multi-disciplinary team, including, but not limited to, a psychiatrist, registered nurses, social workers and recreational therapists, in a warm, supportive environment. Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented  Psychiatric Care Specialist Preceptor (PCSP) to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.

The PCS Preceptor is responsible for the unit based orientation of the new hire PCS staff. This position utilizes standards of practice to teach clinical staff the safe delivery of high-quality patient care in accordance with Havenwyck’s policies and procedures, as well as State, Federal and other regulatory guidelines.  The PCS Preceptor will coordinate the provision of services that reflect the philosophy of the organization, standards of mental health care, care of assigned clients, and overall therapeutic milieu.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Directly monitors new employees during the orientation period in conjunction with the Staff Development Coordinator, Unit Manager and CNO.  Responsibilities include training employees and providing feedback to PCS staff in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the unit based orientation of new clinical employees by providing one-on-one teaching and modeling of job duties.
  • Demonstrates a sincere desire to continually improve and upgrade the skills and knowledge of the PCS staff.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately complete and review all documentation as relates to the provision of care of patients or in daily operations and to instruct others in its proper completion.
  • Responsible for documenting competencies of new hire PCS staff through direct observation. Observes and reviews technique and provides constructive feedback when appropriate.
  • Follows new PCS staff through the orientation period (initial 90 days introductory period) in order to provide clear direction, training and mentoring.
  • Manages a reduced patient case load and performs patient care duties with new PCS staff for the purpose of role modeling, problem solving, supervising and evaluating performance/quality of care.
  • Works as a PCS during periods when he/she is not training new PCS staff. 
  • Participates in program planning and evaluation activities related to the clinical services of theHospital. The preceptor will be responsible for conducting programming (didactic or alternative) when he/she is orienting new PCS staff and while working as a PCS on the unit.
  • Participates in the ongoing annual training of PCS staff to achieve high standards of efficiency and effectiveness. Approaches everything with passion and desire to achieve the highest standards. 
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma required.  College degree preferred.
  • Three years of PCS experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to relate feedback and mentor newly hired employees.
  • Current certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention and BLS/CPR preferred
  • Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
