The core accountability of the Payroll Specialist is to accurately process the bi-weekly payroll for multiple, complex multi-state corporate companies (Cox Enterprises, Atlanta Journal Constitution and Dayton Daily News) on PeopleSoft system and will transition to Workday to include executive payroll processing. Works closely with most levels of Corporate employees and HR divisional contacts to identify and resolve payroll related issues, provides support, and answers pay related questions while maintaining a high level of customer service.

* Responsible for completing the timely entry of all employee level tax, general deductions, special earnings, direct deposit and all other payroll related data in PeopleSoft and Workday payrolls on a biweekly basis.
* Gathers and enters time entry information regarding worked and non-worked hours (PTO, vacation, sick etc.) from various sources (time clocks, spreadsheets, emails, etc.) for accurate payment to employees. Verify accuracy of payroll data entered and compare against input documents.
* Follows up with timekeepers and managers to ensure procedures are followed timely and accurately.
* Reviews, monitors and validates transactions initiated by other areas (benefits, compensation, etc.) to ensure accurate processing for employee.
* Assists HRTS analysts with proactively identifying potential payroll issues and correcting any errors prior to confirming the payroll transactions.
* Acts as a payroll expert concerning wage and hour laws as well as other payroll related topics to service customers with their payroll related questions.
* Maintains customer contacts for corporate payroll for questions, payroll check and reporting distribution.
* Generates any off-cycle payment transactions, as required by customers.
* Sends communication and manage process for updating employee for special annual payments/updates (club dues, personal auto usage of company vehicle, etc.).
* Maintains documents and procedures followed within the Payroll Operations area.
* Interacts with employees and HR professionals regarding questions about payroll.
* Produces reports as needed and/or directed for internal customers.
* Researches and resolves pay discrepancies.
* Updates leave balances as requested by HR division leaders.
* Monitors and responds to corporate payroll email inbox.
* Perform other duties as assigned depending on department and business needs.

* Bachelors degree preferred with minimum 3 years experience supporting a large HR/payroll environment
* Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
System Knowledge/Experience:

* Minimum of 2 years experience with Workday Payroll
* Experience using Microsoft Office products
* Experience using Payroll Reporting Tools
* Excellent customer service, verbal, written and communication skills
* Ability to be flexible and respond to varied demands
Reports to Sr. Manager, Payroll Operations
