Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 18 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center currently has a Patient Advocate/Lead Mental Health Tech position available.

The Patient Advocate acts as an advocate for all patient, family members and guests.

• Responds to all concerns from patients, families, and other external stakeholders and resolves complaints/grievances in a timely manner.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Develop and maintain patients rights program.
• Participates in regulatory and accreditation surveys.
• Participates in internal and external investigations.
• Complies with all patient rights standards and regulations.
• Engages patients in the complaint resolution process.
• Documents record of patient concerns, interventions and resolution process.
• Compiles and analyzes data from the complaint reports on a systematic and scheduled basis.
• Provides training to employees and patients related to patient rights.

Lead Mental Health Tech:

• Provides documentation training for staff during new hire orientation and ongoing
• Audit documentation in medical charts
• Conduct other various trainings with staff during new hire orientation and ongoing.
• Plan activities for the Units.
• May have to work the pattern on unit depending on acuity.
• Will accompany residents on outings

Education: Minimum Bachelors in human services field or related field.

Experience: Previous experience working in a residential or psychiatric setting with children and adolescents preferred.

Qualifications: verbal and written communication skills, statistical data collection, organization/record keeping, discretion and confidentiality, sensitivity to the needs of patients and families, prioritizes problems based on the impact on resident care, team collaboration and professionalism.

Must have a valid drivers license.
