The Patient Services Representative is a critical part of the oncology clinic and helps set the tone for a patients visit. They provide a wide range of Administrative support to include serving as the receptionist, answering and directing phone calls check in / out operations and scheduling functions. They obtain patient insurance and demographic information, collects co-pays, schedule new and return appointments including treatments or tests, pre-certification of services as required by insurance, monitor and distribute inbound and outbound documentation whether electronic or paper format

Primary Responsibilities:

    ""
  • Greets patients and visitors to the clinic in a prompt, courteous and professional manner; checks in patients and informs clinical staff of patient arrival; provides and explains paperwork for the patient to complete prior to examination; collects, proofs for completeness, and files patient forms
  • ""
  • For new patients obtain all necessary documents, copy insurance cards, etc. and ensure information is correctly documented in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • ""
  • For established patients obtain updates, address and insurance changes, etc.; update information in EMR
  • ""
  • Confirms and verifies insurance eligibility, co-pay, and any outstanding balance to be collected
  • ""
  • Answers, screens, and responds to routine questions, routes to appropriate personnel, or take thorough messages. Communicates messages in an accurate and timely manner according to procedures
  • ""
  • Triage patient calls either directly to nurse or to voice mail, recognizing emergency vs. non-emergency
  • ""
  • Answer questions and give information directly or on the telephone within the limit of knowledge and medical practice policies
  • ""
  • Schedule and confirm appointments; give routine, non-medical instructions in preparation for the patients visit
  • ""
  • Records patient cancellations and missed appointments; reschedules appointments. Notifies appropriate staff of the cancellation and makes note in patient chart
  • ""
  • Checks patients out after examination. Schedules returning appointments in accordance with physician and / or office guidelines. Provides patients with appointment details such as time, location, directions, instruction sheets, and other details

  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic / practice
  • ""
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ""
  • 1+ years of front office experience in an ambulatory setting
  • ""
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • ""
  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease
  • ""
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
  • ""
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
