The Optum Leadership Experience (OLE) provides select participants pursing advanced degrees with superior, cohort-based exposure, experiences and development opportunities through a portfolio of best-in-class intern and full-time programs: 

  • Corporate Leader Program (CLP)
  • Optum Product Program (OPP)
  • Launch Leadership Program (LLP)
  • OAS - Advisory Consulting Track (ACT)

Each program is specifically designed to develop the next generation of corporate, product, consulting and care delivery leaders, and all require highly motivated, passionate individuals with bright ideas and the will to lead.

  • The Corporate Leader Program (CLP) and Optum Product Program (OPP) are 24-month development programs based in Eden Prairie, MN or Boston, MA and are tailored to MBAs. They offer graduates three, eight-month rotations through the areas of Optum corporate (e.g. strategy & transformation, operations, customer office, finance, marketing etc.) and product (OptumHealth, OptumRx, OptumInsight), respectively.
CLP rotation examples:
  • Develop a standard, repeatable process to gather, synthesize and analyze market sizing and competitive data across key market segments (payers, providers, government, consumers, etc.) at both the product segment and product line levels
  • Drive initiatives and support teams within each key area of corporate finance, pricing and capital. Deliverables include a long-range strategic plan, annual business plan, earnings release support, quarterly forecasting, product line profitability, etc.
OPP rotation examples:
  • Work cross-functionally with clinical, operational, network, financial and client-facing teams to adapt a current product to meet the specific needs of the Medicare population. After pilot launch, analyze performance, troubleshoot issues, and plan for expansion
  • Work cross-functionally with clinical, operational, network, financial, and client-facing teams as well as external pharmaceutical companies to effectively develop a therapy solution. Support the ongoing management of the product suite
  • The Launch Leadership Program (LLP) is tailored to MBAs, MHAs and MPHs. LLP offers graduates a 12-month immersive experience in clinic operations or functional support - running a care delivery clinic or a central strategy in e.g. business development, clinical performance, risk adjustment etc. Opportunities exist across the country and may vary year-to-year based on business need. Location and role (clinic operations or functional support) will be determined after the interview process
LLP practicum examples:
  • Leading population health initiatives including the pitch and production of a mobile mammography unit and an interdisciplinary clinical call program
  • Managing an urgent care clinic including a ~$3M P&L and team of 17 clinicians and administrative support staff
  • Facilitating the turnaround of a 24/7 urgent care and close observation unit
  • Overseeing daily operations of a primary care clinic servicing over 2,700 patients
  • Supporting the National Operations Team by helping design and build out a national service center model to enable scalable and flexible operations and allow for the ability to load balance services across multiple sites
  • The OAS - Advisory Consulting Track (ACT) is a 24-month consulting development program based in Eden Prairie, MN, Franklin, TN or Washington DC, and it is tailored to graduate candidates with previous work experience and interest in healthcare consulting. They offer graduates three, eight-month rotations through the areas of Optum Advisory Services (Payer Practice including risk management & growth, health management & operations, government programs, payer technology; Provider Practice including cost, revenue management, enterprise services, provider technology; Analytics Practice; Strategy Practice). Rotational opportunities are provided in the payer and provider businesses in specific geographies. These rotations give the participant the ability to experience various areas of OAS and help influence final post program placement within OAS. Participants have the ability to telecommute post-program completion
OAS-ACT rotation examples:
  • Rotational opportunities are provided in the payer and provider businesses in specific geographies. These rotations give the participant the ability to experience various areas of OAS and help influence final post program placement within OAS
  • Opportunities to lead advisory teams in programs, projects, and areas of subject matter expertise
  • Exposure to the most complex problems in health care through internal and external client work

During your program experience, you will:

  • Lead high-priority work that supports your respective program track
  • Gain exposure to and knowledge of the healthcare industry (including care delivery), Optum businesses, functions, strategies and senior leaders
  • Develop relationships and networks
  • Receive hands-on training and support
