The Clinical Research Nurse, under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and ensures the integrity and quality of clinical trials are maintained and conducted in accordance w/ federal, state, and local regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, and (Insert name of the practice or business) policies and procedures. This position is also responsible to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with each protocol and to assist Investigators of clinical studies in coordinating and facilitating the activities of study participants.

Optum/USMD Oncology Infusion RNs focus on providing care and treatment to patients with cancer. This position reports to clinical supervisor and provides direct patient care, educates, collaborates, and counsels patients and caregivers in a clinic setting. The nurse assesses physical, psychosocial, and learning needs of patients and families. They care for critically or chronically ill cancer patients by administering treatment and providing information and support. Oncology nurses work with physicians as a part of interdisciplinary teams to care for cancer patients in Optum/USMD outpatient clinics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with each studys protocol by providing thorough review and documentation at each subject study visit
  • ""
  • Participates in recruitment and selection of study participants by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements. Interfaces with study participants, to support efforts to determine eligibility and consenting requirements according to protocol
  • ""
  • Performs medical or research required tests, including, but not limited to, vital signs, imaging studies, specimen collection and processing, and electrocardiograms
  • ""
  • Administers investigational medications, as applicable, and performs patient assessments during clinic visits to determine presence of side effects; notifies Principal Investigator of findings/issues
  • ""
  • Provides patient education and medical information to study participants to ensure understanding of proper medication dosage, administration, and disease treatment
  • ""
  • Documents medical data in patient chart to capture protocol requirement
  • ""
  • Ensures site compliance with research protocols by reviewing all regulatory requirements to confirm implementation of appropriate methods, practices, and procedures for all research activities
  • ""
  • Develops accurate source materials and ensures compliance from site staff
  • ""
  • Provides accurate and timely data collection, documentation, entry, and reporting in both sponsor and OCRI databases / Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) particularly in regard to adverse experience monitoring and reporting responsibilities
  • ""
  • Supports the Clinical Research and Regulatory Coordinator in the maintenance of regulatory documents in accordance with SOP and applicable regulations
  • ""
  • Communicates and collaborates specific study requirements to the research team, including internal and external parties, sponsor, monitors, PI, and study participants
  • ""
  • Participates with the PI and study team to identify and prioritize the development of systems and infrastructure to maintain research quality and compliance
  • ""
  • Occasional travel to attend sponsor study training meetings, as required
  • ""

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of GCP, federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA policies and procedures
  • ""
  • One yearof oncology clinical trials research experience
  • ""
  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease
  • ""
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
  • ""
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders.
