Mesilla Valley Hospital(UHS facility) is a free-standing psychiatric hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico that provides mental health and drug & alcohol addiction services for adolescents, adults, and seniors. Mesilla Valley Hospital has been in operation since 1987, serving those in need of treatment for a variety of psychiatric and substance abuse issues. Mesilla Valley Hospital is a 120-bed facility, providing access to quality behavioral healthcare and substance abuse treatment to residents of New Mexico, West Texas and Arizona.

Mesilla Valley is recruiting for a Full-TimeNURSING MANAGER. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Under the direction of the CNO, the Nurse Manager provides continuous nursing care in the assigned area(s) in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Hospital and within the framework of established policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing Services. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the clinical leadership and coordination of all nursing personnel. As a key team member in the clinical area, the Nurse Manager promotes a climate of effective performance through role modeling, willingness to learn and teach, and availability to patients and staff. Organizes, manages, and coordinates nursing services and will assure quality nursing care utilizing the nursing process, as outlined by the Nurse Practice Act. Functions as a representative for Chief Nursing Officer, in the CNOs absence.

Job Requirements

The following are the job requirements for theNURSING MANAGERposition:


Graduate of accredited School of Nursing or baccalaureate program required

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the State of New Mexico or Compact Licensure


Three (2) years of clinical experience in psychiatric nursing, including Charge Nurse experience required;

Thorough working knowledge of Hospital, Nursing, and HR policies/procedures, with demonstrated ability to use skills in clinical and managerial situations

Experience with clinical infection prevention practices and employee health required


Must be self-directed and willing to assume decision-making responsibilities.

Must have working knowledge of aseptic techniques, prevention and control of communicable diseases, safe work practices, and basic management skills.

Must stay current with Federal, State, and local healthcare standards, policies, and procedures for workplace health and safety.

Must have the ability to maintain working relationships with medical staff.

Must have the ability to communicate effectively.

Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability.

Must have sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.

Must have good record-keeping and organizational skills. Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations

Must be certified in CPI training within the first three (3) months of hire and annually thereafter.
