Under the supervision of the Ancillary Services Director, and the Nurse Call Line Assistant Director, the Nurse Call Line RN triages calls from our ProHealth practice sites, including calls from patients, nursing homes, hospitals, and laboratories.  The RN evaluates the clinical nature of the calls and follows through with the appropriate triage protocol.  The RN collaborates as necessary with the -on call- physician and thoroughly documents the clinical calls in electronic medical records.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for rolling over the office phones at the beginning of each shift in order to effectively retrieve practice site after hours phone calls
  • Uses approved age appropriate triage protocol manuals to guide clinical triage decisions
  • Refers patients to ProHealth Express Care Centers as necessary consulting the -on call- clinician as needed
  • Refers patients to the ER as necessary, collaborating with the -on call- clinician
  • Works effectively with Nurse Call Line Receptionists to schedule patients in the practice management system for next day and evening appointments
  • Completes thorough documentation of each clinical encounter using the electronic medical records system to provide continuity with the patient's Primary Care physician
  • Provides age appropriate clinical advice to patients calling the Nurse Call Line, collaborating with the -on call- clinician as needed
  • Uses ProHealth's delegated prescription refill policies and procedures to refill prescriptions according to the Nurse Call Line guidelines
  • Uses electronic tracking mechanisms to document the types of calls received through the Nurse Call Line and the response that was taken for each clinical interaction
  • Provides feedback to supervisors to assist in policy and procedure development as well as program development
  • Uses secure desk top texting system to effectively communicate with -on call- clinician
