The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Network Engineer II.

The Network Engineer II assists in daily network operations including, but not limited to, call support and diagnosing problems. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and identifies failing/failed components through use of testing procedures, instruments, and diagnostic software. Researches and resolves complex, technically oriented user problems. Monitors and troubleshoots WAN, LAN, and Internet connections, monitors bandwidth use, and analyzes traffic patterns. Manages and monitors switches, routers, firewalls, and other network equipment using remote monitoring tools, protocol analyzers, and other tools to troubleshoot, diagnose, identify and solve problems. Configures and installs equipment as needed. Maintains list of outstanding problems and resolutions. Coordinates problem escalation to other IS staff and vendors. Communicates resolution to appropriate IS staff and system users. Analyzes and evaluates problem call reports, and recommends permanent solutions for recurring problems. Using trend data, works with team members to develop service objectives and monitors progress against objectives. Assists with defining policies and procedures, and works to constantly improve call handling and resolution process. Maintains network diagrams. Researches new technologies that may increase corporate productivity or provide better service.

Recommends courses of action regarding network system requirements and solutions with respect to daily operations and general infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Monitors bandwidth use, analyzes traffic patterns and volumes
  • Monitors and troubleshoots WAN, LAN, VPN and firewall connections
  • Provides technical network expertise to others as necessary
  • Creates and maintains documentation of networks and network systems
  • Configures new network equipment and connections. Including switching, routing, VPN, and firewall technologies
Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Three to five years of related knowledge/experience in the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of multi-vendor network devices including switches, firewalls, and edge devices (routers and WAN optimizers.) An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic Cisco IOS and NX-OS command output.
  • The ability to work flexible hours and/or overtime as needed.
  • Demonstrate customer service skills with the ability to interact with staff at various skill levels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Experience and knowledge of supporting a large LAN/WAN environment
    • Experience with disaster recovery and network failover
    • Basic knowledge of DS3/DS1 technologies
    • Intermediate knowledge of troubleshooting TCP\IP networks
    • Intermediate knowledge of Cisco Firewalls
    • Intermediate knowledge of Cisco IOS and NX-OS
    • Intermediate knowledge configuring and using SNMP and Netflow
    • Experience performing packet captures and interpreting the output
    • Experience servicing customers via phone/email support
    • Organizational skills and abilities to self-manage workload
    • Capable of generating new ideas and continuous improvement efforts
    • Share/Provide 24x7 coverage (on-call.)
  • Special Skills/Equipment:
    • Cisco and other vendor Routers, Firewalls, and WAN appliances
    • VLANs and IP routing
    • Solarwinds/Whats Up Gold
    • PacketShaper by Blue Coat
    • Silver Peak or other WAN Appliances
