The Defense group supports the Department of Defense (DoD) mission to keep our homeland and its citizens safe. We provide solutions to improve the Nation's defense by providing software, systems engineering, IT, training and logistics and fleet management solutions.


Responsibilities

The Network and Communications Engineer will support further development of the Ground system and Ground to Space ICDs. This individual will hold an active/current DoD Top Secret clearance.

Tasking includes leading efforts to perform System-level requirements development, requirements flow-down, interface design, integration, and verification

Work with the Ground Segment engineers to develop solutions incorporating the requirements of the other Segments and externals such as:

  • Custody algorithm hosting
  • Link-16 and IBS message generation, encapsulation, and routing;
  • Ground segment interface into mission data processing enterprise;
  • External interface management; and
  • Payload planning, scheduling, and tasking.

The Network and COMM engineer will determine where gaps exist and perform trades to determine options.

Support the Mission Integration Engineers to meet Ground Segment and Space to Ground Mission requirements.

Work may also include

1) Support to develop, verify, and integrate algorithms and software designed to generate Constellation Management plans and scripts. Primary functions include SV upload and software & hardware configuration management, orbit management (maneuvers), fault response and emergency operations.

2) Support to develop, verify, and integrate algorithms and software designed to establish, maintain and modify the space-based communication network. The network software will generate Network Management plans and scripts, generate routing tables (if used), monitor network status and quality of service, and implement fault response and emergency operation scripts.


Qualifications

  • Designs and plans network communications systems.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Conducts testing of network design.
  • Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options.
  • Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network.
  • Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

  • Requires 8 to 10 years with BS/BA or 6 to 8 years with MS/MA or 3 to 5 years with PhD.
  • Over 5 years experience required performing Network and Comm support to similar DoD or Space Domain Programs
  • Ability to communicate status with senior Government Leaders at appropriate reviews
  • Minimum TS Clearance required
