The UHS HTM Medical Systems Engineering Technologist (MSET II) performs evaluations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on devices used in the care and treatment of patients at UHS facilities, affiliates, and other institutions that have relationships either owned or contractual. Focuses his or her performance to ensure that all patients receive the safest and best possible experience while at the facilities serviced by the UHS HTM Program. Works independently with minimal supervision. Delivers exceptional customer service to patients, physicians, nurses, technicians, administrators and all persons who are contacted during the course of their service. Delivers service that meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements and compliance for the position held. Assists UHS HTM leadership with developing and strengthening facility and vendor relationships. Responsible for executing and meeting all requirements of the established key performance indicators (KPIs).

Job Requirements

Experience with healthcare technology management programs

ACI Certification Required (CBET, CRES, CLES or CHTM)

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements

Must possess skill-set of advanced modality HTM expertise such as clinical laboratory, medical imaging, radiation/oncology or high-end biomedical devices such as device integration/networking

Medical equipment knowledge (manufacturers, models, modalities, capital planning, etc)

Understanding of regulatory requirements of medical devices (CMS, TJC, CLIA, AABB, NRC,State, Local)

Advanced/Strong computer skills (proficient with Microsoft products), experience with CMMS products

Strong planning and organization skills. Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills

Travel will be required periodically

Key Performance Functions and Responsibilities:

Maintains Designated Biomedical Equipment

Conducts periodic inspections/tests based on pre-determined priorities and conditions.

Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment as specified.

Responds to requests by pager, radio, telephone or other methods of communication.

Performs emergency repairs using proper troubleshooting techniques and procedures.

Performs initial acceptance on new equipment.

Maintains logs and documentation of inspections, tests, servicing and repairs as required.

Completes work orders as required.

Aids in investigation of incidents involving equipment malfunctions and assists department supervisor with SMDA reports.

Participates in and supports a process to improve performance of services.

Assists medical and related staff by providing clinical support of medical related equipment.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Ability to read and write English

Ability to understand electronic equipment maintenance problems

Ability to perform lifting (minimum of 50 lbs.), bending, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, work with hands above head, work above ground on ladders, etc. and standing or sitting for long periods.

Ability to understand and practice safety requirements in work involving exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological materials and dangerous equipment.

Ability to respond to pager, radio, telephone and other auditory stimulation.

Ability to discriminate color.

Ability to perform quantitative/mathematical functions and measurements.

Supports the special needs of the department and the organization:

Assists Supervisor in accomplishing goals, projects or special assignments.

Performs layout and installation of equipment/cabling.

Remains flexible to changing needs

Assists in various non-maintenance activities.

Defines self-learning needs and takes initiative to identify areas for potential growth.

Physical and sensory requirements:

Ability to remain calm under stress in various environments.

Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families, vendors, visitors and others.

Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
