The Medical Collector is responsible for performing complex or specialized collections functions by interfacing with various departments, insurance carriers, and patients while ensuring a good relationship.

Primary Responsibilities:

""
    ""
  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate our companys commitment to superior customer service, including quality care, and concern with each and every internal and external customer
  • ""
  • Identify payments and denials trends and communicate to Manager of Collections and Team Lead
  • ""
  • Answering patients questions on patient responsible portions, copays, deductibles, coinsurance, write-offs, etc.
  • ""
  • Resolves patient complaints or explains why certain service are not covered
  • ""
  • Documents all calls clearly and precisely at time of call
  • ""
  • Performs necessary follow-up to ensure timely resolution of appeals, obtain updated insurance information, identify and correct billing errors, etc.
  • ""
  • Meets department productivity standards
  • ""
  • Maintain current working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, required modifiers and encounter data
  • ""
  • Maintains up-to-date information on Medicare and Medicaid laws, HCFA requirements, contractual arrangements and other third party payer requirements
  • ""
  • Responsible for reviewing payer correspondence and documenting actions taken to correct the issues
  • ""
  • Apply knowledge of third party payer guidelines in reviewing denied claims to ensure appropriate use of modifiers and CPT/ICD-10 codes
  • ""
  • Communicate system, credentialing, and claim formatting issues to the Manager of Collections
  • ""
  • Perform collection activities on assigned work files according to department procedures
  • ""
  • Uses, protects, and discloses patients protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards

Required Qualifications:

    ""
  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • ""
  • 3+ years of medical collections experience in a multi-physician practice, including third party and self-pay billings
  • ""
  • CPT and ICD-10 experience
  • ""
  • Experience in utilizing payer web portals
  • "
""

Preferred Qualifications:

    ""
  • Some college
  • ""
  • Experience in Allscripts, Athena, EMD or E-Clinical Works
  • ""
  • 3+ years ofexperience in a medical business office
  • ""
  • Previous computer experience (MSWord or other processing programs)
  • ""
  • HMO/managed care, Medicare experience
  • ""
  • Knowledge of practice management and office automation software
  • ""
  • Ability to use 10-key by touch
  • ""
  • Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel
