Southwest Medical, part of OptumCare, is a multi - specialty group of physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants consisting of over 300 providers, 21 medical health centers including six urgent care clinics, four convenient care centers, two lifestyle centers catering to older adults, an outpatient surgery center, home health, hospice and palliative care services, plus E-visits and online options via Now Clinic telemedicine technology. Primary Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, responsible for auditing approximately 800 self-pay accounts per month.  Phone calls are made to the guarantor and payment in full requested or payment arrangements established.  This position must maintain a high level of customer service.  Must be familiar with all third party payer contracts, with HIPAA regulations, and with the Fair Credit and Reporting Act.  Responsible for posting all patient payments, as well as handling patient correspondence and mail returned for incorrect address.  Responsible for assisting walk-in patients, acts as back-up on phones for the Patient Accounts Representatives. Applies some advanced skills to the position within assigned functional area.  May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position.

 

  • Handle an average of 50-60 incoming patient calls per day.
  • Assist patients either in person or over the phone regarding their account.
  • Establish payment arrangements with the patient.
  • Post payments received from patients.
  • Handle correspondence received from patients.
  • Work returned mail.
  • Must keep up-to-date on payer contract changes, HIPAA regulations, and other billing/collection issues.
  • Resolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
