The Energy category is one of the fastest-growing and is a dynamic beverage category, where there is a strong need to build brands that connect with consumers and their lifestyles.

The PepsiCo PBNA Energy team is comprised of a variety of energy brands for unique occasions, ranging from established $1BN+ brands like Rockstar to smaller brands like Kickstart by Mountain Dew. Marketings role within the Energy team is to accelerate the value growth of this multi-brand portfolio through the development of new, culturally relevant consumer brands and continuing to expand established ones.

The Senior Director, Energy Communications & Engagement will be responsible for strategic integrated marketing communications for the energy portfolio. Leveraging the brands grassroots marketing heritage, there is a strong appetite for an approach that allows for an expansion of consumer reach for the brand and connectivity to culture.

You will lead the consumer engagement and communications agenda for the category, driving the advertising, social media, digital, grassroots, and integrated marketing communications efforts. You will be expected to broaden marketing focus beyond traditional media and aggressively develop a more interactive dialogue with consumers. This role is critical in shaping how our brands live and thrive within the culture and consumers everyday lives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • As an expanded portfolio of brands for PepsiCo, this role will help lead and shape the structure of the energy marketing team, being responsible for building a talented and driven team within communications and engagement
  • Setting a clear vision, strategic roadmap and consumer-driven omnichannel plan for 2-3 priority energy brands
  • Partnering with Insights, Strategy & Innovation, Design, Commercial, Media, PR and another cross-functional leadership to build and execute programs on time that raise the bar on creative excellence and reflect deep consumer empathy
  • Determining how to best leverage sports and entertainment assets to drive brand awareness and build equity
  • Partnering with key strategy leads to build long-term brand and business strategies that help deliver brand relevance
  • Lead grass-roots marketing strategies across lifestyle outlets including colleges and universities, extreme sports
  • Define the brand architecture and core beliefs to determine the path forward
  • Define the necessary guardrails and stretch potential for each brand to ensure there is the necessary national consistency whilst enabling locally even better execution
  • Lead the efforts of crafting the revised Vis ID for the Rockstar brand with the North America Design team to increase the relevance of the brand and drive growth through a stronger visual proposition
  • Elevate the Rockstar brand to re-gain its prominence for the brand to differentiate in the category and reflects the underlying claims of the brand
  • Lead consumer-grounded and culturally relevant campaigns by being strategic, forward-looking and planful while activating in the marketplace

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10-15 years of consumer-rooted marketing experience or related field
  • Proven people leadership capability
  • Exceptional results orientation with a high degree of personal initiative and leadership
  • Strong communication, influencing and collaboration skills across functions, geographies, and partners
  • Interacting with confidence and collaboration with senior leadership (internal and external)
  • Displaying a sense of urgency, bias for action, and strong attention to detail
  • Deep understanding of consumer behavior, including consumer connections with brands and culture; proven consumer-centric marketing results
  • Passionate about creative and storytelling
  • Ability to work through ambiguity
  • High drive for results
  • Strong creative development and brand communications experience
  • Budget and agency management
  • Digitally-savvy: Have a working knowledge of the current and emerging media landscape, including digital tech and tools, best practices including creative & innovative thinking with digital platforms
  • Experience building omnichannel plans
  • This position is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in the United States
