*Job Summary:*


As *Manager, Software Engineering* you will build exceptional teams that take pride in the work they do, the challenges they solve, the commitments they meet and the quality they build. You will provide guidance and direction to multiple software engineering scrum teams for the Finance & Insurance business unit of Cox Automotive including teams working from locations outside of our North Hills, Ny office including international locations. You will work closely with leaders of functional groups (such as Architecture, UX and Product) to ensure creating high quality software that delivers promised business value on time. The Manager is hands on leader who will be responsible for championing software engineering practices to build high quality software and influencing teams to follow these, identify areas we can do better as a team and drive continuous improvements through process, technology and people.


Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, this is a temporary work from home role but will ultimately work in the Cox Automotive offices Sacramento, CA.

Technology: Candidates for this role should have worked hand on in building software using modern architecture and design utilizing technologies like Python, .NET, AWS, Java, Angular, React or similar platforms/languages. An ambassador of the DevOps mindset and should have used CI/CD practices. A torchbearer for quality and process. Prior experience breaking monolithic applications into micro-services and moving to AWS is highly desired

Identify gaps in teams and help fill them through trainings, hiring etc.

Help team members understand the organization, roles and responsibilities of individuals and how to navigate the organization

Build quality into everything we do, strive for excellence - process, documentation, communication, code, test cases, support - anything and everything we do

Identify, own and resolve chronic challenges the teams and team members face



*
Help teams understand the purpose of their team and establish a team charter

Encourage and foster a culture where teams question the status quo and own and strive to make it better by challenging and questioning and asking for rationale/business value for requirements/asks that get to the team

Elevate the importance of design and business value in all discussions within the team



*
Ensure we follow good engineering practices within teams and cut waste wherever possible.

Empower team members and help enforce good engineering practices by saying "No" to anti-patterns like a team accepting a story/feature without enough detail, or a team estimating without architecture and design being documented



*
Build a continuous improvement culture demonstrated through metrics like delivered stories/story points over committed stories/story points, risks identified earlier, % spill over, cycle time for stories, defect backlog reduction




Qualifications: *Required Knowledge, Experience & Education:*




*
10+ years of experience in software engineering, or combined equivalent of education and experience



*
3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams



*
Experience in Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) development preferred



*
Experience as a technical or a functional lead on major implementations, including experience facilitating analysis, and design working sessions with business representatives.



*
Experience managing and leading up to 10-15 engineers



*
Experience coding in Python, Java and/or .NET is extremely important



*
Experience mentoring and/or leading other engineers



*
Deep knowledge of API development best practices and standards
