The Cardiovascular/Metabolism (CVM) Medical Affairs manager will serve as an expert in the cardiovascular and metabolism disease area and execute evidence and insight generation, interpretation and dissemination activities for the safe and effective use of Pfizer products in this therapeutic area. From the development stage to the stage of Loss of Exclusivity, the individual will work from a long-term perspective to contribute to improving the quality of medical care so that patients can receive the appropriate treatment based on evidence.

The individual in this position will be mainly work for creation and execution of Medical plan and Life Cycle Management plan for apixaban in alignment with Global Medical and Commercial strategy. The individual will identify unmet medical needs (UMNs) in this area through medical-to-medical scientific exchange with 1:1 meetings with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Advisory board meetings. Based on the UMN, the person will develop and execute short-term and long-term plans of medical activities in order to fulfill the UMNs. The activities include development of publication planning, execution of data generation, presentation of the data at academic congresses, conducting internal/external education and engagement with KOLs. The individual will partner cross-functionally with internal stakeholders such as commercial (marketing and sales), Medical Information, Medical Operation, Drug safety, Health and Value functions, Development Japan (clinical development), Legal, Compliance, other Medical Affairs teams in different therapeutic areas and Global Medical team to develop, lead and execute the Medical plans. The individual will:

+ Demonstrate deep cardiovascular/metabolism expertise

+ Serve as a reliable resource of accurate, current medical and scientific knowledge (e.g.: disease states, product label, statistics interpretation etc.)

+ Lead or support to develop strategic evidence generation and dissemination plans

+ Lead or support the execution of evidence generation activities

+ Lead or support internal data interpretation and alignment activities

+ Lead or support evidence dissemination and education activities including scientific publications/presentations and scientific exchange

+ Contribute to scientific, long-term life cycle planning for CVM products

+ Collaborate with Global Medical Affairs team to ensure that they understand the situation in Japan and that Global medical strategy is reflected in Japan's medical strategy for the CVM products.

+ Collaborate with the alliance partner to plan and execute medical activities

+ Plan and lead successful advisory boards, congress-related symposia

+ Actively engage with key external stakeholders such as KOLs, patient associations, physician associations and regulatory bodies for customer insights and relationship building for CVM products in alignment with Pfizer policies and local regulations in collaboration with field based medical colleagues

+ Lead the conceptualization and medical review of all promotional strategies for the portfolio to ensure they are fair and balanced, supported by scientific data and in accordance with Pfizer policies and local regulations.


+ MD, PhD/Master of Science (in life science field such as medical science, pharmaceutical science, biology, biochemistry, or public health etc.), or Pharmacist

+ A minimum of 5 years of experience in Pharma or allied industry (medical affairs and clinical development). Experience in cardiovascular and/or metabolism preferred.

+ More than 2 years of research experience and achievements (i.e. conference presentations, publication of academic papers) desirable. The research experience may be at university, graduate school, or industry.

+ International experience a plus

+ Managerial experience a plus

+ Very strong communication and relationship building capacity and ability to listen, understand and integrate opinions

+ Fluency in English required (ability to read English scientific papers, create English study protocols and reports, and communicate effectively via email and conference calls with Global Medical Affairs colleagues). TOEIC score 730 or over. The score 850 or over is preferred.

Internal: Global and local Medical and Marketing teams, Marketing leads for products, local sales leads, other Medical Affairs BU leads, Medical Information, Medical Operations, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, and Clinical Development
